HP PSC 750xi - Incorrect color printer cartridge installed error

I have been using my printer (all-in-one) with no problems, then out of the blue I start getting the "Incorrect color printer cartridge installed" error. I have the HP 78 color cartridge installed and it's been working up until today.

I removed it then reinstalled it but cannot get the error to clear and allow me to use the print function. HELP!!

I have the exact same problem and the suggested solution does not fix it.

The same thing happened in the middle of print job. The "incorrect color cartridge installed" message appeared and the printer stopped. I putzed around with taking the cartridge out, putting it back, cleaning the contacts on the cartridge and the cartridge holder, turning the machine off and on. I even did tried the old taping up the contacts trick used to reset the ink level. All to no avail. I took the cartridge to Office Depot to see if they could run a diagnostics on it using their refill machine ( I needed another cartridge anyway, right?) Their machine was broken...just like my cartridge! At this point I'm just curious to see if there is a fix and how common this problem is with the 78 cartridge - or other HP products.

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried resetting to factory defaults, aligning, cleaning etc but all to no avail. Wondering if I should just buy a new printer now.

I had this same problem and by a luck I fixed it. Not sure if the method to the madness had anything to do with it, but I'll put it down in the order that I did everything. 1. reset to factory defaults 2. pulled all cartridges out. it prompted me to put color in first, then black. message was still blinking so i took out color and put it back in again. 3. i did the partial reset by holding down cancel and left arrow while i unplugged/replugged the printer. 4. no the printer started displaying "remove and check color cartridge" (or something to that degree) 5. i took out color cartridge, cleaned the contacts with water on towel, and replaced cartridge. 6. same message still being displayed, but it allowed me to print a maintenance report. so i then cleaned cartridges and aligned cartridges through standard menu. 7. msg still being displayed, so i turned off/on printer again. this time it came back up with no message at all. 8. printer now works
hope this helps and works for ya'll too!

It's a long shot, but I would attempt to reset the device back to defaults. If this HP has a "menu" feature, then factory defaults should be an option. Before doing that (and I know this is a dumb question), have you turned the printer off, then turned it back on after a brief rest?

Let me know if this helps and please remember to rate those who assist you :)

I do not want to use color cartridge in my hp psc 2410 printer. But without installing this cartridge, the printer is not working

Inkjet printer require both cartridges to be installed and have ink to go online. There is no way to bypass this function. If the printer does not detect the cart when it tries to perform a head clean cycle you get the error you have displayed on the screen. All inkjet printers are like this not just HP.

I installed a refilled HP 94 cartridge in my HP PSC 2355 All-in-One printer. It worked well for several weeks but then I suddenly got the following Error Messages: "Incorrect Cartridge - Black ink...

This is a firmware issue with this printer model, and is fairly common. Try the following: remove both of the print cartridges, close the lid, wait for any noises to stop, and pull the power plug out of the back of the printer while it is still on. Wait at least 10 minutes with the cord disconnected. Plug the power back into the printer, wait for the noises to stop, and then reinstall the cartridges, black first (very important), and then the color. This will force the printer to reload its ram memory and should take care of the glitch. Let me know if you need further assistance, as I would like to be sure your problem is fixed.

Printer reads "Incorrect Print Cardtridge Installed"

According to the HP website, the correct cartridge for the HP PSC950 is HP15 or HP78. Comes in black only or tri-color.

Hp psc 2110 incorrect ink cartridge message.

Hi plabonne,

I hopped out to HP's support site for stats on your cartridge and found some info at this link:
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/supplies_model.do?product_code=C8648A&jumpid=oc_R1002_USENC-002_HP%20PSC%202110%20All-in-One%20Printer&lang=en&cc=us

are you using an HP 57 Tri-color cartridge? HP printers work best with HP cartridges and often have problems with refilled cartridges. the grinding noise you're hearing makes me wonder if the cartridge isn't seated all the way in its little carridge (the plastic part that holds the cartridge). have you had a chance to slip teh cartridge back out and try gently slipping it back in again?

here's another link to try for info for this model of printer (HP's support site), with specifics about your error message about half way down the page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=bpu05206&dlc=en&product=79488

hope this helps!
