Error 46 on a Brother MFc-8840DN - Brother Office Equipment & Supplies

Error code 46 means that your ink absorber pad needs to be replaced. According to Brother, only an engineer can do that, but you can get more information from them by contacting Brother support:

Click on "Send us an Email" and tell them your printer's model number, the error code, and whether or not your machine is covered by a warranty.

How to get a MFC-8840/D/DN to scan to Windows 7 over the network or by USB:

First - Download the Windows Vista Full Driver & Software Package from Brother: Brother MFC-8840DN driver download page

Install the drivers using a custom install - pick only the Network scanning drivers, unless you want the other junk - no promises on how well the other stuff works.

Alternatively, if connecting the MFC-8840DN to Windows 7 by USB, download the Printer and Scanner Driver for Local Connection. It is a separate download. Install only the Scanner driver.

Once the Vista scanner driver is installed, you can test by running the built-in Windows 7 Scanner Wizard. Here are instructions on how to test.

As far as conversion to PDF, that will depend on the software. I am not sure if the Control Center or Paperport softwares work on Windows 7. I have not tried those. I have found that freeware STP will works fine.

To Clear the error follow the procedure

1:) Turn Off the printer

2:) Hold down the menu option on the front panel and turn on the power while the menu button is still pressed

3:) Release button after 5 seconds (after the Please Wait message)

4:) If error still occurs Press 91

5:) If it still ocurs press 99

This should clear the error.

The fuser gear on this fuser breaks alot. You are better off getting a new fuser if you know how to repair it.

Getting error 46 means waistinktank filled up.

You need a new waistinktank.

Im not sure if you can get one at a service partner (see brother homepage of your country). Ask for it. If your machine is still in warranty they will do the job for free.

BTW: You must have run a lot of cleaning cycles! Is it because you run generic ink? The waist ink tank of the lc51 carts last at least 3 years at normal office condition.

Check left hinge for cracks.

You can purchase a device to turn your MFC into a wireless device. There are devices that can connect to the parallel port or USB port or the network port. The device itself then has an antenna that sends the signal onto the wireless network. I use a Linksys Wireless-G Access Point that attaches to my 8840DN network port. I can then set the MFC anywhere in the house.
