I have a philips CD 245 portable phone with additional handset. the display screen is always flashing on 'searching' for both handsets. When I try and turn on the answerphone facility it doesn't switch on, yet the phone line and adapator are connected. When i dial the number from and external phone the line rings but the phone doesn't. I've turned the mains on and off, still nothing, yet when I place the phone back in the base set it makes a beep sound

I have exactly the same problem. Seems like the base station is dead. I have tried to register according to the manual, but still doesn't work. The answering machine doesn't work either. Any solution?

Presumably you have 'registered' the handset to the base station - a bit fiddly, but easy enough! If you haven't a handbook, there is one here

Binatone 1910 flashing not registered to base

Registration:
Instructions if you need to register handsets to the base:
You can register additional handsets to have up to five handsets per base unit, with each handset's number (1 to 5) shown on its display.
1. Press and hold <PAGE> on the base station for more than five seconds to put the base station into registration mode. (Note: there is no feedback to know it is in reg mode.) It will stay in registration mode for about 1 minute. So complete following sequence within this time. (It helps if handset is kept very near to the base during this).
2. Press <MENU> and <UP/DOWN> on the handset to select REGISTRATION.
3. Press <OK> and you are requested to enter the 4-digit system PIN.
4. Enter the 4-digit system PIN.
5. Press <OK> to confirm, and the display will show SEARCHING. If the handset registration is successful, you will hear a confirmation tone and the <antenna icon> will stop flashing. This may take a short while. The handset will automatically be allocated the next available handset number. This handset number is shown in the handset display in standby mode. If thehandset registration is unsuccessful, the <antenna icon> will still flash and the display will return to ' REGISTER', so you will need to repeat registration process.

Can I use Philips CD240 CD245 handset on a philips dc445 base

Simple answer yes they are compatable I just did it as I could not find any CD445 handsets. The manuals are downloadable from Phillips just search for CD445 or CD245 manual.Just press speaker button on 445 base for 5 seconds untill it beeps twice, then on new 245 handset menu/ register enter default code 0000 and bingo its live. Oddly the newer handset bases are 9v and not compatable with 445 bases which are 6v and have different contacts so you cant sit your 245 in the old base.My new 245 came with a new base anyway so no problem.

UNIDEN 5.8 GHZ CORDLESS PHONES

Registering Handsets to the Base
Whichever handset you choose to charge in the base is automatically
registered to the base. Any additional handsets must also be registered to
the base before you can use them.
Be sure both handsets are fully charged.
One at a time, place each handset in the base. The charge/in use LED on
the base begins to flash, indicating the base is registering the handset.
Wait for at least five seconds, then pick up the handset and press
[talk/flash]. If the display shows TALK, the handset is registered. If not,
place the handset in the base to try again.
Press [end] and continue with the next handset.
Note:
Once both handsets are registered, it doesn’t matter which
handset is placed in the base or the charger.
When you charge the handsets, Caller
ID summary screen and the name of
the handset appears.

This can be find from uniden website.

Main handset won't work; additional handsets do.

Check that you have the larger power adaptor connected to the base unit.
