Toshiba 50hx81 board to board connecters functionality

I can't figure out how to detach the 2 mainboards in this 2001 Projection TV. (How do I attach/insert a picture here?) I want to replace Convergence Correction Circuit STK392-110 (lot D2A10) as Blue Drive / Screen is all bowed out and chip has leaked. So I need to take board out and get to some soldering. These 2 main boards are right beside each other. There are 3 board to board connectiors. 2 white ones with levers that seem to pull up on bare wires and a blue one that is in a hard to reach area but looks like there is a lever here to. I need to know how these connectors work so I don't break anything. so am askin 4 help

Boards dont seperate. They sit on Plastic deck. Just remove 3 screws and deck slides out the back of the TV

Can't believe I havent fixed this for over a year. Anyways... I Desoldered heatsink and STK392-110 Chip pins and will replace. Convergence resistors physically look ok but I will see if I can test 1st. Time to shop for a new STK392-110 Convergence IC Chip

Wow, time flies by. just got an email from fixya. So updating this post. I replaced 1 of the convergence chips a while back and TV has been workingg great as it should. I had an overlay so I did another alighnment. TV is over 10 years now so am happy i guess. was a $3200 TV back in the day but clarity is still better than most. only drawback is she is a heavy beast.

SOURCE: Low voltage power supply fuses blown

Theres two jumper wires around the convergence ic's that supply the +/-32 volts to them.I found a cold solder joint on one of them. This causes the fuses to blow.Their close to the edge where the two boards meet.

SOURCE: CONVERGENCE PROBLEM IN TOSHIBA 43H70

Hello Renee, You have a convergence problem, but you are adjusting the wrong system. You need to adjust the convergence rings first ok You need a dot and crosshatch generator to properly set convergence for this set. Connect the generator set the TV to channel 3 and turn on the generator set it to dots adjusting the convergence try to get the center dot RGB all together and then adjust for the outer edges using the convergence board. the use the crosshatch to adjust convergence along the lines of the crosshatch pattern. Remember use the rings first and the the convergence board adjustments.

SOURCE: Toshiba 57H81 Flashing Red Power Light, Blown Fused F850+F852

Solved by resoldering some solder joints!!!!!!!
********
Toshiba Model 57H81 Rear Projection TV - Purchased 11-09-2001

Problem: Toshiba 57H81 Flashing Red Power Light, No Picture/Sound, Blown Fuses F850 + F852

Symptoms January, 2009:

  • Upon turning on set I got flashing red power light and nothing else.
  • Removing plug for one minute and plugging in results in:
    • Audible click, steady red power light for 2 seconds then slow flashing red light
    • Pushing power button results in steady red for about 2 seconds then slow flashing red light, no other set activity
  • Removing power cord for several hours and plugging back in made no change
    • Audible click, steady red for about 2 seconds then slow flashing red light
  • Possible related note: Over past several months occasionally the entire screen would flicker momentarily and at other times be problem free for weeks.
  • Fuses F850 and F852 found blown

Repairs Made:
  • PD0074 DEF/CON Power Board
    • There are two main power supply capacitors in this set. They are C-809 and C-810. One their negative lead on the printed circuit board re-soldered leads and nearby contacts. I’m told that because the factory left out a printed circuit board eyelet, the connection will come loose over time. When I called Toshiba customer service they said there was a known solder joint problem causing blinking red light.
    • Replaced blown fuses F850 and F852.
      • I actually installed a fuse panel on the inside of the cabinet and routed the fuse connections here instead of ordering the special fuses and replacing them on the circuit board.
      • Had to use a 5 Amp SLO-BLOW for F850. Fast blow does not survive power up. Get the red blinking light.
      • Used a fast blow 2 Amp for F852.
  • PD0073 SIGNAL Board
    • Re-soldered Q751 + Q752 STK392-110 Convergence Amps
    • Re-soldered adjacent pads that looks suspicious

Total Cost to Repair about $10
  • Twelve hours of my time over three days to research issue, disassemble set, make repairs, add fuse panel.
  • Already owned Service Manual and Circuit diagrams from a different 2004 repair.
  • Less than ten dollars at Radio Shack for fuses and fuse panel. Already had wires, etc.
  • Some solder. Already owned de-soldering tools, etc.
  • Visited both local authorized Toshiba factory service repair facilities. One said repair would have to include replacing Q751 + Q752 STK392-110 Convergence Amps with ST392-180, and realigning set for a total of $500+ and it would be more if they had to order a power board. NO THANK YOU! Other shop said $65 for site visit and $30 to make an estimate that could be applied to repair.

Toshiba 50HX81 projection 'tv- blinking red light

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

No pic or sound with power on my Toshiba 50HX70 Tv

The plug configuration shouldn't make a difference; the third (round) pin is only an earth/safety ground. The two primary plugs supply the AC. You probably have a failed power supply which may be a separate board. Check to see if this is the case, look for a part number and see if you get any hits on it on search.

Toshiba TV 50HX81

Check fuses on Power Supply board (F850, F851, F852) and all other fuses. Replace blown fuses (will need an ohm meter to check fuses). I would also replace the two convergence amps (STK392-110's on the signal board, the big black ICs on the two heat sinks). This worked for me.

Toshiba 50

1) Blown fuse ( soldered in) = caused by bad solder connects.
2) For repair = pull chassis, solder connects, replace fuse
3) Replace convergence IC's ( possibly damaged)
4) Re-assemble,test
