Cassette player doesn't work

Our cd/cassette/am/fm radio has never had a cassette in it until today, and I find out that the cassette will not play or rewind. Am I doing something wrong? Cab you verify what switches need to be in which positions to play a cassette?

SOURCE: I have XM radio hooked to cassette player adapter

Unfortunately your tape play has the auto reverse feature. It is detecting that the tape is not turning via a reel counter. Sensing no movement ( as you have an audio adaptor inserted rather than a real tape) it is trying to switch to the other side of the tape.
Not very much you can do.
You could purchase an FM modulator and basically re-transmit the Xm over an un-used frequency on the FM band to slve your problem

How do i change the AM radio to FM?

Hello
Press RADIO BAND.AUTO PRESET until the band you want appears in the display (direct power on). Each time you press this button, the indication changes as "FM" --> "AM". Hold down TUNE + or --, until the frequency digit begins to change in the display. The player automatically scans the radio frequencies and stops when it finds a clear station. If you can't tuned in a station, press the button repeatedly to change the frequency step by step. If FM broadcast is noisy, press "MODE" until "Mono" appears on the display and the radio will play in monatural without any noise. Only strong FM signals can be decoded to stereo. OK.

Cassette player doesnt play or record, ff or rewind. CD player, AM/FM radio works fine.

Hi.
If you hear a faint whirring sound from the cassette player while performing these functions, the motor is fine, but you require a new drive belt/s that need to be fitted at an electronics shop. If you hear not sound at all, the motor has died (possibly belts too), again it will require and electrinics repair shop visit.
For the sake of repairing it, it maybe cheaper to buy a new one.
