Our WM2277HW machine - on spin cycle - has been spinning unbalanced for a few weeks(requiring us to open door, shift load &/or basket)-- mostly apparent when doing larger loads or bedding. However this morning, with a load of pants, it began making a grinding sound on the spin cycle, did not spin and the door would not unlock when paused (did not occur during the wash or rinse cycles and it agitated/spun normally). There was no code and only after turning off the machine and waiting several minutes did the lock release. Once open, there was water still in the machine. Help! As I am relocating 4 hrs north in 3 days!!

SOURCE: LG Tromm WM2277HW during high speed spin makes noise
I had exactly the same symptom...grinding noise only during high speed spin cycle.
I took the top and back panels off to see how the drain hoses etc. connected. Not wanting to take it apart further, I eventually just took the washing machine outside (I knew I was going to be dealing with water!), pulled the debris catcher front side bottom, and let rip with a garden hose inside the drum with the catcher out (leaving an open drain that could flow unimpeded).
Water flowed quickly out of the open drain, and lo and behold, a small drill bit came out with the water flow. This bit, presumably had gotten through the drum grating, and was resting on the bottom of the housing, scraping and grinding when the drum was spinning.
SOURCE: I took my basket out because of an unbalancing
Normally excessive shaking etc is caused by 3 things.
1) Unbalanced load.
2) Brocken spring that suspend drum.
3) Dampers under drum lost damping.
I would expect 3 as likely cause if machine works ok except for when spinning.
