Hi,

The set up says it couldn't find the harddisk because you need to slip stream the harddisk driver into the windows xp cd where as in the normal setup cd's it is not present.

You need to download the SATA AHCI controller driver and slip stream it in to your windows xp setup ..

You can find the information in detail on how to slip stream from the website below:

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows/resolving-setup-did-not-find-any-hard-disk-drives-during-windows-xp-installation/

I hope the information helped you

Regards
-Dileep

Hi Iam trying to install a SATA2 Samsung HM320II 320GB disk drive on my lenovo 3000 N200 Laptop but when I turn the computer on it says "FIXED DISK 0:" What do I need to do to resolve this...

The BIOS in your laptop has detected the SATA hard drive as "Fixed Disk 0" this is normal.
If you are trying to install Windows XP on this laptop, XP will not detect this hard drive because it does not have the SATA driver included in the XP installation CD.
For instruction on installing XP on your laptop with a SATA hard drive, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

Bought HP Pavilion dv2910tx,not able to install Windows XP. Help

If the install cannot detect the hard disk then the hard disk is faulty and needs replacing or the disk controller is faulty.
You can check if the hard disk is faulty by :-
Go into the BIOS and check if there a hard disk diagnostic.
If not then remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port.
If this computer see it as an external hard drive and you can view the contents of the drive then it is OK and the fault is the disk controller on the laptop.
To setup XP.
You insert the Windows CD and boot up the laptop with the CD.
You have done this correctly to get the hard disk error message.

If  you are trying to install Windows XP in latest Notebook, it will not be able to detect the Hard Drive since all the latest Notebooks are shipped with SATA Hard Drives and by default and Windows XP will not be able to detect SATA Hard Drives by default.
If you are having a Intel based Notebook, you need to download the SATA Drivers from the link below :

Find the instructions to create a bootable XP Disk using the SATA Drivers from the link below :

Some copys of windows XP can not detect a SATA hard drive what you need to do is get hold of a later dvd copy of XP only the lastist dvd copys of XP are setup to detect SATA hard drives. It has to be a DVD copy as the CD copys do not detect SATA drives. Find some one with a new computer with SATA drives that has windows XP installed on it and try there copy of XP on your computer.
