Got an Averatec 3200 second hand from someone. Worked great for about 2 weeks. All of a sudden, when booting up, I get a blue screen that says "STOP: c000021a {FATAL SYSTEM ERROR} The Session Manager Initialization system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc000026c (0x00000000 0x00000000). The system has been shut down." And all I can do from here is hit the on/off button and it turns off. Any suggestions???

Im sure the virus would have stopped a boot up unless is was a bios virus which is rare. It's sounds to me as if it's a processor problem, it seems to work at first which suggests the motherboard is working, but then as soon as the pc starts to work hard which is on start up its either getting too hot then shutting down or simply damaged. I assume you cannot get into the bios as it shuts off too quick, but you may still be able to clear the bios by locating the cmos battery and flipping out, as the bios may not be seeing your hard drive and crashing, this will make your laptop pause in the bios first, so trying to get in the bios may be a step forward so as to get the laptop to see your new drive.

You can put any CD/DVD/HD-DVD/Blu-Ray drive in it as long as you have the rigth connection cable and XP or above. i.e. PATA, SATA, SCSI...

Try having the problem devices turned on and plugged into the USB port(s) and then start or restart your PC.
This should cause Windows to recognize them and install drivers if available from its library.
It may also ask for an installation disk if it cannot identify the device.

I have a Averatec 3260, it crashed and I loaded XP Professional, lost all my drivers but I managed to get them back via Microsoft update (custom option) apart from Video Controller Driver. Found out the Video card was an S3G_UniChrome_IGP and found the driver for this at the following link http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-24969-2 I assume HP use the same hardware as this is a HP website. Anyway this loaded straight onto my Ameratec and everything is back to normal Note: If you press F4 continually at start up you maybe able to get options to restore back to factory setup using the Phoenix software. Unfortunatley I found this out too late as I had already reinstalled XP.
