This has happened to me and it took me hours to figure it out. I hope yours is the same problem...
Make sure you dont have your touch pad set to off. On my ASUS It is F9 on my keyboard. the key shows an icon of the touch pad with a slash (/) through it. If you do not see this on your keyboard try looking in control panel and see if there is a setting in there. Good Luck. Please let me know if this worked.

I would verify that you have the compaq drivers installed for the mouse pad NOT the microsoft defaults alot of the time they add functionally like the double tap click and things like that. The link is

My Acer 5810T laptop touch pad click function is not working, however the cursor/mouse movement via the touch pad is working well

In the bottom left of your screen by the clock there should be an icon that says touch pad device, synaptics touch, or something along those lines. If you click on this it will give you different options for the touch pad and one of them is tap to click, make sure this is turned on.

My touchpad has stopped working and the only way i can properly use it, is by plugging in a computer mouse. The touchpad allows me to move the mouse arrow icon all over the screen, but when trying to...

You can turn on "tapping" and will be able to tap instead of click. It seems like hardware problem. Take the computer apart and check the flat cable from the touchpad to the motherboard. Check with a mutltimeter whether the buttons are making contact on click.

How do I disable touch pad when using a mouse? ASUS K50IJ Win7 64 bit

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

Alternatively, you can permanently disable the touchpad of your laptop by clicking the "Disable Device" in the Touch Pad setting. Advanced users can disable the touchpad from the BIOS setup [press F2 when the computer is booting to enter BIOS settings]

Unfortunately, there are no keyboard shortcuts to enable/disable Touchpad movement or tapping. You can however drag the Mouse icon from the control panel to your Quick launch bar for quick access.

If that sounds too much effort, you may consider adjusting the sensitivity of the touchpad. This can be accessed from the Touch Pad tab of our mouse properties. Choose a low setting.

How to set up mouse pad so it works with touch

Check in the control panel under mouse. There should be a setting to enable tapping. If there is a touch pad icon on the bottom right of the screen you can also right click on that and select options.

Touch pad not working

Oh, you mean it doesn't click on tapping.

Okay, this will surely fix it. Something has disabled the tap feature and you need to enable it again. I have seen it with a couple of computers and I fixed them.

Go to Control Panel. Enter the Mouse Settings and select the last (Devices) Tab at the top of the dialog box that appears. There, click the button Properties. In the Window that comes up, select the Tapping option in the left pane. There, click the Checkbox 'Enable Tapping' or similar.

Now click Apply as many times it requires to close off all the Windows that have come up. Now try moving the mouse.

Please rate this answer. It is really gonna 'FixYa'!
