My sony vaio vgn-cs36mj controller volume are not working

The button must be defectedYou will still be able to raise and lower the volume within windows. Seeing that this is a fairly new laptop and should be under warranty, you should contact Sony and they will give you the information how how to replace that component.

make sure u have latest drivers

if that still doens't work, ive found that sometimes the "Processes" are not active in the system preferences. You have to go into System Services and activate it

If you have formatted the hard drive, you are quite correct, you will have no system recovery data.
The cheapest place to purchase a new system will be ebay but beware of bogus disks!

VAIO VGN-Z520N/B 13.1" Laptop : where is the volume control on sony vaio laptop...

You can use the Fn+F3/F4 Function Keys to control the volume.

To increase the Volume, press Fn+F4 and then press Up or Right, or Keep pressig Fn+F4.

To decrease the volume, press Fn+F3 and then press Down or left, or Keep pressing Fn+F3.

It seems that the CPU cooling fan is defective. Since you just bought the laptop before 5 months, I assume it is still covered by warranty.
