Yes as specifed above this is the fault of the flexible strip wire that connects the monitor to the main board and is a common fault as the material snaps off or cracks to cut off connection to the monitor at the hinges of the door. hence you get the connection when it is flipped. Need some care to do this and hence it is best to get help than to tamper the unit.
The problem you are experiencing is caused by a bad LCD flex cable and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, Ti's not really a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified technician.
