Electricity technician should fix the cord and make the proper replacements

Don't worry much for the data, you have a lot of choices to do that, like getting a new adapter, other battery, or even take out the hard disk and plug it on other pc

Dog chewed wire in power adapter

If you have a soldering iron and some experience, it is easy to solder the parts back together, just be sure to examine the cord closely for any chew marks /pierces. If you do not have a soldering iron / eperience, generic power supplies for laptops with voltage switchable voltage for different brands and different heads are about 30$, check your local store. be sure to by one with enough watts to power your system.

Wont operate on battery

Hello bzbeeus,

I'm afraid to tell you that you will need a new ac adaptor. Your ferritt chewing threw your cord did not blow any kind of fuse (besides the fact that there isn't one).

Basically you can search on amazon.com they always have great deals and price comparisons on things of this nature.

Hope this helps steer you in the right direction, thank you for choosing Fixya!

Power problem

I don't think you are dealing with a short in your system. Your battery is probably dead and/or needs to be charged. See if your new power cord will work and will turn your computer on. Make sure that you have the exact power cord that your specific system calls for, because not all laptop power cords are the same. I mean you can't just use any laptop power cord; it has to be one that is rightly built specifically for your laptop system.

My cat chewed the wiring on my Bose in-ear headphones

Of course. Just peal off the main isolation and connect wires according to color of their individual isolation. You can just twist them and wrap them with duct tape or solder them and wrap with duct tape.

My cat recently chewed trough 220 Volts stereo power cord (fortunately unplugged) and trough speakers cable too. They work perfectly again after quick fix while my room has become off-limit zone to my cat. ;-)

Better get your tomcat fixed or find him a girlfriend unless you'd like to risk him getting killed when he starts chewing some power cord.

No power or lights on my inspiron 2650 laptop

First you need to test your adapter first not the power cord.Check that your adapter can give out according to the adapter spec..maybe 16-19ou V.If it does and still you laptop don't turn on then you have motherboard problem.

Won't turn on at all

If he chewed far enough into the cord that it shorted out, then the power supply would have been killed instantly, but not before taking out the motherboard on the laptop with it.

The motherboards for laptops are rediculously expensive and a new laptop would be the way to go.

The next best option is to hunt around on eBay and look for one that has been dropped and had the screen smashed. You could salvage the motherboard from it, or transfer your screen the other way.
The good news is, people will pay good money for dead laptops on eBay for that very reason, so you could always sell yours there to help cover the costs of a new laptop.
Sorry for the bad news
