We have a Magic Chef gas oven (model # CPL1100BDW) without electronic ignition. The oven isn't working. The oven pilot is out, can't get it to light, and the oven will not light - (obviously). The range top burners DO work. What would be the problem, and what needs to be replaced? Thanks, Tom H

If it's an older model with a true pilot light you turn on the gas at supply line valve, open oven door, remove bottom panel to access pilot and burner. Sometimes it's easier to remove broiler drawer on these models but regardless take a lighter and light pilot. Most models are electronic ignitions which if you have it probably needs replaced if it doesn't ignite the burner in under a minute or minute and 15 secs. It could also be a bad thermostat if the burner ignites within the time period described above

it is a glow coil , thermocouples are on units with a free standing pilot that you have to light, if you have a range like this you may need a thermocouple if not a free standing pilot you have a electronic gas iginition system that uses a glow coil, you turn on over setting and oven glows orange then iginites if this is what you have you need new glow coil, easy to repalce

Is this a manual lighting pilot,do you light it?

If so you may have a bad gas valve.

If this is an auto light pilot it could be the electronic spark is bad.Im guessing the popping noise is the autospark trying to light.

oven ifnitor has failed / remove bottom of oven to replace. not a hard job.. ignitor cost 49 to 70.00 depending on model best to use a maytag flat style . this will cost you less.. mm hope this will help you mm

you may need new coupler on pilot system

The pilot light must be lit and stay lit before you will have any propane coming into the oven. This is a safety feature.

There is a cover plate that has two screws holding it down. Inspect the pilot area and you will see a hot surface igniter sitting right next to it.. That is what lights pilot and then the pilot lights main burner. You need a new igniter. Also do not touch any part of the hot surface igniter as human oil will shorten the life of part.

sounding like thermostat isn't working. If you could ohm out the t-stat should be closed when you call for heat. If that passes the test then only thing it could be is the gas valve.
