Hi,

The trick with XP also woks eith VISTA too.
Try the following in vista, you will succeed.

If you're using a RAS / PPPOE connection for Internet, and wish to automatically connect to your ISP at startup, you may use Rasdial utility which is built-in.

Usage: Open a Command Prompt window and type:

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" "password"

This would initiate a dial-up/PPPoE connection to your ISP.
You can create a batch file with the above parameters and place it in your Startup folder, so that vista dials to your ISP automatically at every startup.
If you don't prefer to enter the password in the batch file, use the following command-line (vista will prompt you for a password - secure)

Rasdial <connectoid> "username" *

NOTE: Type Rasdial.exe /? in the Command Prompt to learn more about this command, it's other parameters.

Hope my info helps you,
Thanx for using fixya,
Cheers.

How to fix error 651 on windows 7

Error 651 is a well-known bug in Windows 7 which happen when you try to connect to the Internet using PPPoE connection. If you're one of the victims who met this bug, you should see the following error message: Error 651: The Modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error. These connections, however, would work just fine in Windows XP or Windows Vista PCs. Below are a few solutions that can perhaps fix the problem:

Windows 7 Fix: Error 651 Modem PPPoE Broadband Internet Connection

Fix 2: - Error 651 Modem PPPoE Broadband Internet Connection

The root of the problem is believed to be caused by the RAS PPPoE file raspppoe.sys found in the folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers. To fix this problem, we will have to replace the file raspppoe.sys with a new one. Try to copy the file from your friend's computer which has Windows 7 installed. Alternatively, you can download the raspppoe.sys file from this site (thanks to the author). After you get the file, before pasting it into C:\Windows\System32\Drivers, be sure that you rename the original file to something like raspppoe_ori.sys, so that if something weird happen you have a backup of your original file. Paste the new raspppoe.sys into the directory after you've renamed the original file. Try to connect your modem and it should work fine now.

Error: 651

What causes the Error 651?

  • The raspppoe.sys file has become corrupted. RASPPPOE.sys is an acronym for Remote Access Service Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet. This is a windows driver that many broadband service providers use for authentication when connecting to the internet through a broadband modem.
  • Possible problems with the Local Area Network (LAN) card driver.
  • There may be a conflict with the modem driver and your operating system.

How can I resolve the problem?

  1. Try rebooting your computer. Sometimes a simple reboot will clear your cache and reset the modem.
  2. Rename the existing RASPPPOE.sys file and take a copy of the file from a Windows Vista system. Apparently this problem has been reported for Windows 7 users, by renaming the current file and copying this file from Windows Vista, it should resolve the issue. This file can be found in c:\windows\system32\drivers. You can download a copy of the driver for Windows Vista here (http://www.windowsreference.com/wp-c...5/raspppoe.zip)
  3. Re-install LAN Driver. It's also possible that your drivers are outdated and you may need to download updates from the manufacturer's website.
  4. Install the latest patches for your current Windows OS.

Fix error 651 on windows 7

In windows 7, when you try to connect using your PPPoE connections, you may be faced with the following error: Error 651: The Modem (or other connecting device) has reported an error.
These connections would work just fine with Windows XP or Windows Vista PCs.
Again, you are not alone, this seems to be a known bug in Windows 7 that is being worked at. However, you can workaround this problem.
The RAS PPPoE driver file "raspppoe.sys" found under c:windowssystem32drivers folder seems to be the root cause of the problem. Fortunately, we can workaround the problem simply by renaming the original raspppoe.sys file to something like "raspppoe_orig.sys" copying a working file from a Windows Vista system. If you do not have access to a Windows Vista system. click here to download raspppoe.sys file (unzip). This should help!

Unable to connect to internet on broadband, keep getting error message 651, Win 7. No problem prior to loading Win 7, used to have Vista Ultimate.

This a well known bug in Windows 7 specially when you migrate from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
The cause is a file "raspppoe.sys". This file will be found on the partition you have installed your operating system If it is C: partition then it is found on C:\Windows\System32\drivers.
To fix this bug simply rename it as shown as follows

(1)Rename this file from "raspppoe.sys" to raspppoe.old or any name it any name of your choice.
(2)Once this done simply restart

Good luck!
