Do you have an external monitor for use when the laptop is on the docking station? If so, does your laptops screen come on when it's not docked?
If you're using an external monitor while the laptop is docked, make sure that the screen selection is for external monitors, by pressing/hold the FN key and then press the F8 key to cycle through the choices between LCD, Monitor/LCD or Monitor only.
Turn the machine off and press the eject button on the dock. If you locked it then you need to turn the key for it to come out. The eject button usually has a picture of an up arrow over a horizontal line.
You will need to dock the closed laptop first, then use the power button on the dock to turn it on. This will result in the output to the monitor. Alternatively, if you have the laptop open, you can toggle between the laptop LCD and external monitor (or both) by holding the blue Fn key (on the laptop keyboard) and pressing F5.
