I connect my B130 to an external display using a vga cable. Both screens work. But I am unable to turn my laptop's screen off using Fn F8

the screen wont go off unless you use a docking station. Once you are docked, you can close the notebook lid and use the machine like a desktop: with all your cables hooked into the station itself.

Inspiron 600m,"no input signal check video cable"?

Do you have an external monitor for use when the laptop is on the docking station? If so, does your laptops screen come on when it's not docked?

If you're using an external monitor while the laptop is docked, make sure that the screen selection is for external monitors, by pressing/hold the FN key and then press the F8 key to cycle through the choices between LCD, Monitor/LCD or Monitor only.

Turn the machine off and press the eject button on the dock. If you locked it then you need to turn the key for it to come out. The eject button usually has a picture of an up arrow over a horizontal line.

Docking station trouble

You will need to dock the closed laptop first, then use the power button on the dock to turn it on. This will result in the output to the monitor. Alternatively, if you have the laptop open, you can toggle between the laptop LCD and external monitor (or both) by holding the blue Fn key (on the laptop keyboard) and pressing F5.
