Random wi-fi dropping

My wife as a laptop that is wireless and we both have i-touches we use wi-fi. Every now and then none of our device will connect to the internet through the router. We normally have to unplug the router for it to reset and our stuff will connect. It has been happening for a few months now. I use a Pc that is direct connected to the router and never have a problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The i touches do have the current OS. The problem is also with my wife's laptop too. I will try your router suggestion's. As far as battery levels go, our devices are usually pretty charged. After i check the router stuff i will get back to you.

Go to the linksys website, see if they have a firmware flash for the router, that may help in some connectivity issues. You may also find that the ipad/iphone may drop connections when battery levels are low

Lots of people seem to have trouble getting iPhones and iPads to connect to WiFi networks. Some blame the phone/pad others blame the router. Make sure the iPhone/iPad has the latest OS/Firmware, its possible something has been fixed with the WiFi code in later OS/Firmware versions. Also if possible configure the router for Manual wireless security rather than the WiFi Protected Setup (WPS) option. I had trouble with some wireless devices using the WPS mode. Couple of further suggestions to try.First reset the WIFI security so there is no security. Do so by logging into the router's administration page, select Wireless from the menu. On the Basic Wireless settings page select Manual and ensure the SSID is set to Enable. Then hit the Save Settings button to save the changes. Once you return to the Basic Wireless Settings page, select Wireless Security from the menu. On the Wireless Security page change the Security Mode to Disable then hit the Save Settings button to save the changes. Then see if your iPhone/iPod will connect to your router which doesn't have any security on it. If it does than you may have to go back and reconfigure the Wireless Security settings and enable security. You may have to experiment with each setting (WEP, WPA or WPA2) to find one that works. Then recheck to see if the iPhone/iPad can reconnect to the router when it has wireless security enabled.Second option to try, is when you scan for the wireless routers with the iPhone/iPad, don't click on the router name and enter the WEP. Instead try typing in the router's SSID name and then select the proper security type and enter the wireless network password.

Many Wi-Fi issues can be resolved by doing the following:
    Basic troubleshooting

Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and turn Wi-Fi off and then on again.
Verify that you are in range of your Wi-Fi router or base station.
Confirm that your Wi-Fi router and Cable/DSL modem are connected to power and turned on.
Check whether other devices (portable computers, for example) are able to connect to the Wi-Fi network and access the Internet.

If your device is running 4.3 or lower, the Settings icon looks like this snp_2918920_en_v1.
You can connect to Wi-Fi networks with your device, as well as add networks you use often or remove networks you don't use any longer. You can also change the settings for saved Wi-Fi networks on your device.
Keep in mind that your device will remember networks you connect to, along with security details, and connect automatically when in range.

Turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a network

  1. Open your device's Settings menu snp_bee8810a5fcd80173673b4b15a1804eaee99_3529219_en_v0.
  2. Under "Wireless & networks," touch Wi-Fi.

    • Your device will remember networks it connects to and automatically connect to them when in range.
    • You can forget a saved Wi-Fi network if you don't want your device to connect to it automatically.
  5. Touch a network name from the list of available networks to connect to it.
    • Android 5.0 or higher: If the saved network you want to connect to isn't showing up in the list of networks on your screen, touch the Menu icon e0c84b16c85d9e9f1f5eb1d0111d3421b872 in the top right corner of the screen. Touch Refresh to reload the list of networks. Touch Add network and enter the network's name (SSID) and other security details, if needed. Then touch Save.

Hi,

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Go to your laptop, right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Youe broadband router is working ok with the broadband cable. So it is configured with the broadband cable. Now,to work with the wireless internet, you have to configured the wi-fi router to work internet. You can see the wi-fi connection but unless & untill you will configure wi-fi router it must not work or if before it was working with the wi-fi then you can check the wi-fi router setting because it might change by mistake.Surely it will work after configurating wi-fi router.
