HI, my packard dell tower pc won't stay on when I switch it on. Stays on for about 3 second at most and it switches off by itself. The light comes on on the keyboard as soon as it is on. If I disconnect the CPU cable the machine stays on, hard disk, fun are working but nothing happens on the screen. Can't figure out if is the CPU or motherboard gone. Motherboard is mcp73vt-pm. Thanks for your help!

Sounds pretty desperate. I suggest you find the Dell boot disk and insert it before switching on. Then come back here to report progress. Wish you luck!
May be a problem with the signal of your graphic card, or your pc it's in standby mode/suspension.Pay atention when you switch on the pc, if you listen any "beep" from the tower. There is a beep code table wich tells you what's your problem: RAM memory, graphic card, motherboard...
Hi,
if the light remains Orange, Possible In Standby/Sleep/Hibernate Mode.
Try pressing And Holding The power Button For 4-5 seconds Or more.
If this Fails, remove the power Cable, remove side-panel ( Unless Warranted ) locate the silver cmos battery, on the motherboard. remove the battery for 10 seconds, replace and repower and startup. failing this i,d suspect the ram/memory or cpu.
