You can load up to 30 sheets of plain paper in the Artisan 800 ADF. If the ADF doesn't feed the paper, check the following.

1. Make sure that you are loading plain paper only without a holes. 3-hole punched paper is not supported by this printer.

2. Load paper not exceed 30 sheets.

3. Open the ADF and check for any jammed paper or foreign object that is blocking the paper feeding path.

4. Check if the BIG GREEN ADF indicator is lit when you load paper in the ADF.

If the issue persists, your printer will require service. You can contact the Epson for warranty if your printer still under warranty. If your warranty expires, look for an a service center that can repair your printer.

SOURCE: Paper wont feed into printer no paper jam

In the comments section Blumm suggests pushing a piece of cardboard (like the back of a legal pad) through the feeder as far as you can. Turn the printer off and then on again with it in there. Pull the cardboard out and check for any foreign objects that have been pushed through.
It worked for many people including myself - I got a piece of plastic and it works wonderfully again!

SOURCE: paper feed

The problem is the level to lift the paper is not below the plastic plate at the bottom of the paper tray. Correct by doing the following:
1. Remove the paper tray from the printer
2. Remove the top clear plastic lid from the paper tray
3. Insert the paper tray into the printer making sure the silver level is below the plastic plate (the piece that has the cork on it)
4. Insert paper and top clear plastic lid
5. Print

SOURCE: mp600 pixma printer

I'm not sure if you've already checked this, but this was my issue. I, too, would try to print something and it would make a great deal of clunking noise but would then say that there was no paper and told me to load some. I went to the Canon site and before I actually went through the process of cleaning the print roller, I checked the feed switch button on the display panel. It's right below the ON/OFF button and, what do you know, it was set to feed from a paper cassette instead of the back loading tray. I pushed the button and it's now printing fine. I'm sure we must have accidentally hit the button when we were trying to turn the printer on or off quickly. Hope this does the trick! It's always nice when it's something easily fixed!

SOURCE: My Epson px800fw is claiming that there is an ADF

Make sure that the paper has no staple wires, punched holes or not crumpled.

I have a message on screen sayng " ADF Jam" there is no paper jamming the system. I cannot make this message go away, and so i cnnot use any other function of the printer. How might I clear...

Hi travlynn2,

  1. The ADF
unit is the grey paper tray located on the top of the scanner unit.
Check the following points if it does not feed paper, or you receive an "ADF jam" error message:

  2. Check the position of the ADF document guide:

    1. Lift up the ADF unit. Locate the document guide on the underside, as shown here:

    2. The document guide should be tucked in behind the grey plastic casing, but a paper jam can push it out of position. Figure 8 below shows the correct (1) and incorrect (2) positions:

    3. If your document guide looks like example (2)
on the right, lift it out on the right-hand side. Tuck it in behind the
grey section, so that it matches the example on the left (1).

    1. Close the scanner unit.

    2. If the printer is displaying "ADF Jam, press start to continue", press the B/W Start button to clear the error:

    3. Test the printer by scanning or faxing via the ADF unit.

  3. Check the ADF edge guides:

    1. The adjustable paper tray edge guides must be set to the correct paper size for the paper you are loading. Otherwise, the paper may skew, misfeed and/or jam.

    2. Slide the edge guides to enclose the loaded
paper (in the direction of the yellow arrows below), without causing it
to bunch or crease. The paper should be aligned with the relevant paper size marker:

Figure 9. The ADF edge guides.

  4. Check the ADF unit feed rollers:

    1. Open the cover of the ADF by pulling up the grey lip, as shown below:

    2. Check thoroughly for fragments of paper and foreign objects. Take care not to tear any jammed paper when you remove it.

    3. Use the green gear (circled in yellow below) to turn the paper feed rollers and feed through jammed paper:

    4. Paper dust or foreign material on the rollers may cause paper to misfeed. Clean these parts with a damp, well-wrung cloth:

      1. The upper paper pickup rollers (circled in red, above top left). You can turn these by hand.

      2. The lower paper pickup rollers. These will rotate as you turn the green gear (circled in yellow above). See the inset for a close-up of the lower rollers.

    5. When complete, close all the covers.

    6. If the printer is displaying "ADF Jam, press start to continue", press the B/W Start button to clear the error:

    7. Test the printer by scanning or faxing via the ADF unit.

  5. Check that the ADF unit sensors are not obstructed.

    1. Open the cover of the ADF unit.

    2. Look at Figure 12 below. Check the position of the black plastic parts (the actuators) circled in red.

    3. If the black plastic actuators do not stick out from the ADF cover, they may have been pushed out of position by a paper misfeed and be obscuring the ADF sensors. Tap the back of the ADF unit firmly to release the actuators.

    4. When complete, close all the covers. Check and test the printer as explained in Step 6.d.vi.
Hope this helps.

Long black line from near top to bottom only when using ADF, not flatbed.

Your ADF is not feeding the paper straight. The black line is the gap created when the edge of the gap
has a gap along the edge.

* Adjust your feed bars so that it holds the paper tightly centered to the ADF.
* Check that there is not dust in the feed path of the ADF roller and it is clean.

Paper feed only works manual

I think you have a paper jam or some other tiny objects like a paper clip or the like blocking the ADF(Automatic Document Feeder) roller. You should open your ADF and check for anything obstructing the roller. If you see something just pull it off close the ADF and turn on the printer.

Good luck,
Sai.

Ep1083 copier

If the machine sees the ADF ( auto document feeder) but does not feed the paper? Does it try to feed the paper? Does it pull the paper is a little and jam? If the machine sees the ADF and it starts to feed the paper but jams --- clean the feed rollers/ tires with rubber restorer or a high alcohol base cleaner. Also a mylar could be pulled into the paper path blocking the feeding of the paper. Take a thin piece of cardboard ( like the devider in a case of pop) and slide the cardboard about 3- 6 inches into the feed just past the feed roller. Gently pull back out and try to feed paper again. If those do not work and the machine does see the ADF, you may need switch, sensor, actuator or feed motor.

Paper wont feed propaly

Something probably fell into that tiny pinch of an area where the paper goes. I have found everything from a Tostito crumb to a chip of drywall blocking my paper feed. Flip your machine over, poke it if you have to, and shake it around til the little bugger falls out.
