I have a 4-year old Hayward HeatPro electric heat pump. The pilot light will come on and stays on with power and the thermostat is turned up full. Sometimes when I flip the breakers on, the heat pump will start and shut off in 5 seconds. Left this way, later it will start again by itself and go off again in 5 seconds. Ever since I put this unit in, it seemed erratic, in that sometimes it would start right away and other times it would start when it was good and ready (mentioned just in case it give a clue). Now it won't heat at all!
I do not see a model number on it but it is about 40 inches tall and 32 inches in diameter.
I see questions and answers about self-diagnostics and digital this-and-that, but I don't think I have that kind of unit. If I do, I need that help.
Thanks in advance.

Why is my pump cutting off and on every 5-10 seconds?
from WaterColors Contracting Co. [pool pros]
Prob:Solution: Your problem stemmed from low R22 causing a low pressure reading in the coil pressure sensor. Unit will short cycle if slightly low and will completely take itself off line if very low. You should have gotten an "LP" error code, while this was occuring.
Advice: Answering your question about whether or not there is a better system available? Answer is not really. Systems equipped with automatted controls and chlorinators, heat pumps, auto pool cleaners are complex. They are doing a lot of things under adverse outdoor conditions. They require regular routine maintenance to keep them running optimally. Our suggestion is to find a competent service company that can maintain such a system once per week in the swimming season and somewhat less frequently in the off season. If you live where temperatures go below the freezing mark. Make sure a service company "Winterizes" your system ! AND have that same company 'Contracted" to open your pool in the Spring. Believe me, this is money well spent. With the right company you will enjoy your investment much more.

I have good flow from the pump as determined by the 6 spa jets pressure, but am wondering if there is an internal or external flow sensor that is faulty? I know there is a flow switch on the pump/salt system, but this seems independent of the HeatPro unit. On the front of the HeatPro is a 5-inch round device in the return line that has a clear plastic cover. I can see some mechansim inside, but there is no wiring going to it, so it must be just mechanical.
There is a hayward manual on this heat pump, but evertime I try to download the pdf file, my computer freezes. Don't know if there is more info in the manual that can help me or not!
Thanks.
As it turned out, there was a leak in the steel tubing and the gas leaked out! The unit is 4 years old and Hayward immediately had a local serviceman respond and fix the problem. I never saw a bill of any kind. I am pleased with Hayward's warranty, but it seems I have lots of problems with this system: pump, motor, DE filter, heat pump, thermostat and some other connectors and fittings.
Don't know if there is a better system out there or not! I am concerned about lots more problems in the coming months after the 5-year warranty is over!
