Could be the thermostat, glow bar, valve or wiring but usually the glow bar

You are probably right though often the ignitor will glow, but just not hot enough for the valve to open. I would definitely try replacing the ignitor first, it is much cheaper than the gas valve and those valves rarely go bad. It is possible that the thermostat is not sending 120V to the valve, and thus the ignitor but less likely.

There is a problem with the regulator or the thermal bulb you need to call a repairman in to replace it, if you have a gas smell it is allowing the piolet light to have gas comming out and not lighting this is DANGROUS do not put it off get it looked at right away. This can kill you.

This sounds a lot like a defective pressure regulator. If you do not have one externally connected, then the internal regulator is faulty. If internal, it shouldn't be too difficult to DIY. Just make sure the pressure rating is the same as the one that has failed.

This is usually because the ignitor is not reaching the correct amp draw. There is a free video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html that will walk you thru performing this test.
