The Singer Quantum XL1 has a needle bar positioning spring. It's actually a J shaped bar with a rubber stopper at one end and a hole for the 1 screw on the other end.
When it breaks the rubber partly off or falls off completely the machine shows signs.
The thread can jam or,
The needle bar extends too far left or right.
Also your needle may stop going up and down. It works for regular stitches if you pull the needle bar back down with your hand. For a while anyway.
Sometimes regular stitches work. But you can't sew the large designs like bear, bunny, lamb, duck. Until you replace it.
There is only 1 screw, needle bar tops at the rubber stopper of the J. Or the metal J shape end looks like a c if rubber is missing. So the rubber slips on
See image.
I've only found the entire needle bar positioning spring. It's like I said is not a spring at all it's a metal piece with a rubber gasket on one end
Good luck
Also you may need to use a light stableizer. If the material has gotten jammed before. look at your needle plate where the needle goes in. Has it been damaged? is there a gap, hole, slice, small piece missing? Where needle tinged the plate?
A dent or cut that makes it wider? You'll keep getting "caught"
Try Use stabilizer or get new needle plate.
The good news it's about $10 for the needle bar stabilizing spring.

SOURCE: bobbin case case keeps jamming
I am having somewhat the same problem with the exception that my needle did not break. I've cleaned and oil, but the bobbin case and projection positioned spring is not communicating to allow sewing to continue. The thread keeps jamming and the bobbin raises up the plate. So, what else am I to do?

Have you checked the top thread is correctly placed in the spring of the bobbin case?

Take the bobbin case out. Then when you go to put it in, realize there are 2 ways to get it. You have found one way. The other way is first look in the the slot with a flashlight before you insert it. There is a flat piece of metal the bracket needs to be slid under as it is inserted. This acts like a spring making it tight
