Singer Quantum XL1 jammed I went to do a stitch pattern, and the needle broke (it isn't in the bobbin case...was all intact and I removed and replaced it), turned it off for 20 mins (system is supposed to reset itself) and also tried turning it off and unplugging, etc. It starts to move and then does a little moan/grind and freezes. Is there some way I can unjam it, as I don't want the "$100 just to show up" fee, if it is something easy that I can do myself. It sews like a dream and I keep it really clean, so don't want an service. Thanks!

The Singer Quantum XL1 has a needle bar positioning spring. It's actually a J shaped bar with a rubber stopper at one end and a hole for the 1 screw on the other end.
When it breaks the rubber partly off or falls off completely the machine shows signs.
The thread can jam or,
The needle bar extends too far left or right.
Also your needle may stop going up and down. It works for regular stitches if you pull the needle bar back down with your hand. For a while anyway.
Sometimes regular stitches work. But you can't sew the large designs like bear, bunny, lamb, duck. Until you replace it.
There is only 1 screw, needle bar tops at the rubber stopper of the J. Or the metal J shape end looks like a c if rubber is missing. So the rubber slips on
See image.
I've only found the entire needle bar positioning spring. It's like I said is not a spring at all it's a metal piece with a rubber gasket on one end
Good luck

Also you may need to use a light stableizer. If the material has gotten jammed before. look at your needle plate where the needle goes in. Has it been damaged? is there a gap, hole, slice, small piece missing? Where needle tinged the plate?
A dent or cut that makes it wider? You'll keep getting "caught"
Try Use stabilizer or get new needle plate.
The good news it's about $10 for the needle bar stabilizing spring.

SOURCE: bobbin case case keeps jamming

I am having somewhat the same problem with the exception that my needle did not break. I've cleaned and oil, but the bobbin case and projection positioned spring is not communicating to allow sewing to continue. The thread keeps jamming and the bobbin raises up the plate. So, what else am I to do?

SOURCE: bobbin case retainer popping out on Singer Touch & Sew 625

Take the bobbin case out. Then when you go to put it in, realize there are 2 ways to get it. You have found one way. The other way is first look in the the slot with a flashlight before you insert it. There is a flat piece of metal the bracket needs to be slid under as it is inserted. This acts like a spring making it tight

Singer 4423, timing out, what line up with what

I don't think it's a major timing issue, so don't panic. Take a look at your selected stitch pattern selector and set for straight stitch, and set Tension at 3-4. Width: 4. Length: 4. Make sure presser foot Down when you rethread machine so the tesion disks open up to locate thread. Always hold thread taut when "feeling" for tension slot. Insert new needle. Needle goes all the way up into needle clamp as far as it can possibly go, FLAT side needle toward needle bar and more rounded side needle facing you. Leave 6" tail. Hold thread toward you as you turn hand wheel toward you so needle can make a loop with bobbin thread. Make sure bobbin thread isn't hanging down on or across bobbin! Make sure thread in bobbin has wound evenly - good quality thread ideal! Clean bobbin area and feed dogs for broken, loose threads and lint. Always use needles appropriate size for weight of fabric. I suggest walking away from machine, taking deep, cleansing breadth, humming a favorite tune, then doing above and see how it goes! Soon your machine will be humming happily along with you. Hope these suggestions help. Jimmy

Hello. I own a Singer 4423 Heavy Duty sewing machine. It has been working fine overall, but today it is giving me problems with jamming. At first it jammed underneath the plate and created a huge ball of...

Make sure thread is not laying across the bobbin when you look down into the plastic slider that covers the top loading bobbin case. The bobbin on mine I observed was loose in the case so that as the machine ran, eventually the bobbin thread would jump out of the stitch finger (the silver piece to the far left of the bobbin case, past the tension slots). I solved this problem and so can you! Take the extra felt spool pin felt in your accessories kit that came with the machine, remove bobbin from case and drop this small felt circle into the bobbin case. Replace bobbin. On the 4423, the bobbin thread goes counter-clockwise and drops into the tension discs, and goes all the back until it falls into the space left of the silver stitch finger. Make sure take up level raised all the way up! Then pull the needle thread toward you until bobbin thread comes all the way up. If you start sewing and you actually can SEE the bobbin thread laying across the bobbin, STOP and tethered because that would mean your thread did not slide all the back behind the silver stitch finger--however, I assure you, if you go one step at a time, you did it correctly! You will be smiling in no time! Why? The felt helps to make the bobbin rest in the correct position to keep it from jumping out of the groove. I hope this helps you.

Stitch

Mine is doing the same thing. It's pulling the thread up from the bobbin and making a huge knot. Any suggestions. I've done all the above checks. Brand new needle, tension is on embroidery, threaded properly and no lint in bobbin compartment.

Singer 301A stitch jam

your machine threads from right to left. the needle flat spot faces left. big loopy things means that the upper part of the machine is not threaded properly. as far as the needle hitting the bobbin case, it sounds as if someone removed the hook (part that holds the case) and put it back on 180 degrees off.
