HI and thank you for your purchase.
This is indeed a serious issue. I have a couple of questions to post before i render a proper solution.
1. Where there any error messages or symbols displayed during this occurrence?
2. Has the unit been dropped or mishandled, improperly recently?
3. Have you updated your firmware, recently to the most recent form?
4. Dose the unit reach high operating temperatures during this occurrence?
Please answer as clearly and direct as possible.
Standing by..
No the unit stays in its protective cover. Never dropped, ever. No firmware updates. (yet). There is no issue with the units temperature. Please advise.
There is no status, just the constant reboot when a card is inserted. When removed, the unit opens to the default screen and is fully functional.
I see. There are two possible culprits in this case. One will be damaged CF(Compact flash Card) slot pins that are overlapping or unseated. This will cause(MAX Overload), or CF card read error. This will cause the unit to reboot, due to the CF cards readability issues. This copper/steel pin damage can be caused by normal usage or poorly constructed CF port(manufacturing issue). The next possible issue will be Outdated Firmware. These updates play a massive role in the functionality of the units ability to read the card and format it correctly.
Are you able to pull up the current firmware status at this point?
If so, what is the current version installed at this point?
01.20.01.00 2006 seiko epson
There is a new version that I would advise to update to. This will isolate any hardware issues that may be causing this disruption. The firmware has been updated to version 01.33.
Are you familiar with the updating process?
just did that using the sd card slot. still no CF love. it hangs on the epson screen when a card is inserted.
OK, there has been an update to the firmware at this time that will need to be installed in order to isolate any hardware issues that may be causing the disruptions at hand.
Are you familiar with the updating process?
The actual cf card you are using at this time; Is it larger than a 16GB card by any chance?
Tried several cards ranging from 2gb to 8 gb. This is a device we use weekly. No new cards, no unkown entities. It stopped this weekend.
OK, so its safe to say hat you used a completely blank cf card during your firmware updating process, correct? And you followed proper steps for the new firmware installation also, correct?
the firmware is at 1.33 via an update on a formatted sd card.
OK, this will rule out any software issues that may cause this unfortunate occurrence. The only other culprit will be port or CF slot pin damage. This, unfortunately, cannot be repaired at your residence, due to the fact that, The entire unit will need to be disassembled and the CF port must be replaced. This is connectivity failure, at best. The player will not be able to read or write to the inserted card, due to the damaged at the CF port entry slot. The damage can range from collapsed pin or overlapped pin occurrence. Possible unseated pin(cold solder break). This may be covered under the manufacturers warranty, if the player was purchased within the six to 12 month interval. I would advise, at this point, to contact the manufactures for a hardware repair ticket. There may be shipping charges set if the warranty has expired. Port failure is common in many cases, but not expected.
Contact Epson for your repair ticket asap. I'm sure this will be a repair free of charge, although, shipping charges may apply in certain states.
