Unit will not heat and Hand free light will not come on.

How do you get it to kick in ?.Fid you spin it by hand ,if that's what you did and fan runs then you have a bad capicator. If fan runs fine in cooling and not in heat then you have a bad board

I'm not sure that the switch was your problem in the first place. But changing it couldn't hurt. But if your unit runs,but has no heat, it is probably the large diode that is connected to the heating unit. As for the light, the bulb may just need to be replaced.
On the other hand, one of the internal fuses may have burnt out, which could have affected both the light, and the heat circuit. In any event, you must first remove the unit's cover to access any of these parts. Good luck.

mcdevito75 here, Most likely yes, Check the fan by carefully turning it just a liitle by hand, also check for heat at the fan motor base, close to the ceiling. If heat or fan won"t start by hand, replace it.

In situtions such as these it can be considered that the Magnatron has passed on. Co0t of repair often exceeds the value of replacement.
No fuse controls the magnatron separately from the rest of the unit so deem it dead

With the availability of good second hand models on the market via pawn shops like Cash Converters etc one can find a very good unit with 30 day warranty for $50-100 and its already been checked over for defects

I have just had a similar problem and fixed it today.
The "Empty Water" light was staying on and no heat was given out to dry the load.
I found it to be the float switch in the condenser unit at the back left. It had stuck with fluff and debris. I cleaned out the condenser reservoir and the polystrene float and now all is well.
To get to this unit you must first,
Take of the top and the left hand side panel.
Locate the 2 locking tabs that hold the top half of the condenser onto the back panel and release this part.
Remove this by releasing 2 further tabs that hold it to it's bottom half,
and you will see the float switch assembly on the left hand side.
Clean out the condenser reservoir of any water and aslo clean the polystyrene float, it needs to be free to slide up and down between the plastic guides.
