SOURCE: maxtor slave jumper settings
Hi. Isn't this a SATA drive? There are no slave/master jumpers for SATA. The jumpers you see are to force the drive to use the slower transfer speed of 150mb/s if being used with old SATA controllers that are not capable of 300mb/s.

Hi fkjedi,
Most Maxtor drives all use the same configuration, but HERE a link to explain and show you how to configure each drive. You can print it out and save this for future use.
Thanks

Turn off your computer.
Disconnect the "data" cables from all other disk-drives and CD/DVD drives from your computer.
Connect only the MAXTOR (both power and data cables).
Then, restart your computer, and press DEL to enter BIOS SETUP.
Now, is the MAXTOR detected?
Is it detected as a "master" drive or as a "slave" drive?
Shutdown.
Take the ribbon-cable that leads to the MAXTOR.
It has 3 connectors. Leave one connector connected to the motherboard.
Unplug the connector that _was_ connected to the disk-drive,
and connect the disk-drive to the "other" connector.
Restart.
Enter BIOS setup.
Is the MAXTOR detected as "master" or "slave" ?
Shutdown.
Reconnect the CD-drive to the *OTHER* ribbon-cable.
Restart BIOS setupo.
Are both the MAXTOR and the CD-drive detected?
If so, then Windows should boot from the disk-drive.
