Dont understand why my 60gb playstation 3 will play ps2 games no problem but wont play ps3 games
am i doing something wrong in the settings or something
The issue is the laser (actually has different diodes for blu ray, ps2 format and regular DVD.
Seems like in your case the only one that is burnt is the blu ray.
Send it back to Sony for repairs or if you do not have warranty purchase a replacement lens and install it yourself.

if u havent already u need to go to the playstation store and get the ps2 system data it should allow you to play those games.it doesnt cost anything either
Not all PS3s are able to play PS2 games - they started removing that functionality when they came out with the 60GB model. So if you have a relatively new PS3 (A year old or so), that's likely the reason.
Playing a PS2 game on a PS3 depends on what model your PS3 is. The 40 GB does not play PS2 games, the 60 GB definatly does ,and i dont think the 80GB does
don't forget that the ps3 60gb only read about 80 - 90% of ps2 games not all of them. You may need the firmware for the game you want to play try the site that I sent you the first time for firmware
only the 60gb ps3 has backwards compatabilty. you may be able to play some of your games but will need to update the firmware through downloads on the playstation website
Error 80028f17 is a boot error and there is nothing you can really do about it, the disk is corrupted or burned (illegal copy) of the game.
If it is legit, go back to the store and ask for another copy as it doesn't work.
