HLP4663wx/xaa Fan or Color wheel making noise? I first noticed it within the last week making noise when turning the set off. Now it's continuous. Could hear it slowing down on power off, constant speed now. Thanks

Sorry, not a solution. I am here with same question. It has happened just as you said 4 times in the last two years.

It could be a defective color wheel or stuck light engine cooling fan.

See attached photo: you have a bad color wheel----it turns at about 12,000 rpm and bearings in the tiny motor go bad.

High pitched or fan like sound is classic symptom.

The wheel is available on the internet and You Tube has video instructions by model number for replacing it---Google the model number for the part number for your set to locate the part and instructions.

This for most people is a do it yourself job---takes like 45 minutes start to finish.

If color wheel slows too much set will shut down as its speed is monitored and the wheel can even shatter causing shutdown of the set.

most likely the fan like or high pitched sound is the color wheel which is very common in this model;

if it goes totally bad the set will shut down (wheel can shatter inside).

My experience tells me women (who have better high end hearing range} usually notice or hear it first.

There are do it yourself video clips on You Tube showing how to replace it and if you GOOGLE the model number with the words color wheel you will find them for sale. Suburban Electronics is a good source for this part.

This is typically your color projection drives going out. Soo the picture will go black and white, and the hum will prosist.
It is cheaper to replace the set than it is to replace the Red, Green, and Blue drives; and then have the set re-aligned.
Unless you have a family TV repair guy or know one that loves food! :)

Sounds likea bad color wheel to me, or possibly a lamp has blown. If the noise is a humming sound--it is the CW--if you hear a "sound like a sizzle, for a few seconds and then normal, and this repeats a few times--the lamp has blown.

Hi, bearings in color wheel are about to fail, get it fixed now before the wheel shatters the prisms all over the inside of the tv which of course will then cost you more to fix, video-tek

go to you tube there is a video there that shows you how to replace it you will find it just to the left of the lamp when you pull it out

Yes a humming noise on that model is usually related to the color wheel It will get progressively louder

not the lamp, replace the color wheel
