Maytag Dryer Between every load I have to let the dryer cool down before I can use it again. What is the problem?

  • jfincel Sep 23, 2008

It is a front loader and a home dryer. I can dry a load and have to wait about an hour until it cools down before I can use it again. When it's hot it won't start up.

The secret to great dryer performance is air flow. Fresh air must enter from the rear of the dryer through the vents and exit through the exhaust. If this flow is compromised it will increase the dry times. The length and condition of your exhaust vent would be the first place to check. Some of the industry have said that if you use dryer sheets the lint filter could be plugged from the wax used in dryer sheets. This idea is not industry wide. If your lint filter apears to have a white color across the mesh, then it is plugged. Warm soapy water and a soft brush will clear your filter. Your dryer was designed to have a certain amount of cubic feet per minute of air flow. Anything that changes that will effect your drying cycle time. Lint build up inside the dryer can also restrict air flow. A back up of hot air will cause the thermostats to cycle off prematurely. It can also cause the the drive motor to over heat, the thermal overloads on the drive motor will kick out and keep the dryer from restarting again until the motor cools off. A loud buzzing noise or a lack to start or both can mean a bad motor.

Maytag dryer will not restart immediately after drying a load. has to cool down

try cleaning out your dryer vent. Remove your lint trap and use a flexible wire brush to clean deep inside, then remove your dryer vent hose and make sure all lint is clean from the dryer side of the vent and the vent hose all the way to the out side vent.
Sounds like it may be clogged with a build up of lint

My dryer shuts off after just a few minutes, but will restart after cooling down

if the motor stops running after it heats up most likely the overload is poping on the motor, when the motor cools down it will run again, you need to change out the motor

MAYTAG DRYER DRIES 2 LOADS THEN WONT START UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN

usually it's the motor, there's an overload on the motor that shuts it down when it's to hot, when was the last time you cleaned out the dryer?there could be lint covering the motor, this will overheat it,clean out the duct that the lint filter slides into, blow out the vent line and vac the inside of the dryer where the motor is,next time send the model number and how old the dryer is,clean out the dryer and don't do one load after another and you can still get some life out of the dryer,if the dryer is old use it until it dies

Dryer will only dry clothes half way, then when i go to continue drying, dryer will not turn back on until cooled down

Hi, the motor is overheating. i recommend inspecting the motor windings for splits or separation within the strands. make sure all wire connectors to the motor are not corroded or lose. replace the motor if there are signs of windings failures or discolored copper strands.

Dryer too hot...no cool down

no the thermal fuse has nothing to do with that, although it will open again if too hot and that may be why it opened in the first place.most high heat ,long dry times are the house ducting.try this experiment.remove your dryer from the house ducting and dry a load[it wont hurt a thing]if not as hot, then get that ducting cleaned.if still hot then make sure the inner dryer air ways are clean.your blower is spinning fine[not broken on the shaft]and also check with ohm meter,or visually that your heating element is not shorted to ground[then it by passes the cycling thermostat.if all those things good and still getting high heat i may replace the cycling thermo.but as a repairman i did not have to do that very often.most of the time it was the other possibles. i hope this helps abit God bless ,tom

After a few heating cycles the burner does not ignite

The problem you are describing is usually associated with a bad gas valve coil. The dryer runs normally until it gets hot, then starts making a strange clicking noise. After it cools down, the dryer runs normally again. The gas valve coils (there are two of them) usually run about $20 a piece. I recommend replacing both of them at the same time just to be sure. I hope this helps.
