Type in "compmgmt" into your windows run box and hit "enter" This should load up the management console.

Click on "Disk Management" and it will show you what has happened to your disk space.

SOURCE: no internal hard disk found during booting when i am going to format

It is possible that the HD has failed completely. However, this is a relatively new laptop, so I would suspect that is not the case. Sometimes the HD will lose contact for one reason or another. This can usually be cured by removing the HD and reinstalling it, which will remove any crud from the contacts.

If the machine is still under warranty, call Dell support. They will walk you through diagnostics to determine the actual problem.
If you're not sure of the warranty status, go here:

SOURCE: no internal hard disk found

Hi there.
Use the Vista CD to create the new partition, but first you have to delete the old partition first, (the 220GB partition not the 10GB one because that will be the recovery partition).
Get a calculator and work out your new partition, for example 50GB is 50x1024MB so that will be 51200MB.
When you have deleted the 220GB partition select NEW and input your newly worked out partition and carry on from there, to activate the other partition just format it.

Please post back with the results and for anymore help if needed.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

SOURCE: Hi i take dell laptop with 320 gb hard disk &

you cannot split the partition while its in use.
THE FOLLOWING WILL ERASE THE ENTIRE DRIVE.

put the OS dvd into the machine
power on
hit F12 key when the dell logo appears
select the cd/dvd drive.
the machine will now boot from the OS disk
follow the instructions until it asks where to install windows.
At this point you can split the disk into as many partitions as you like providing you choose a partition of at least 30Gb for the OS to be installed on.

Hello Sir,

You can create a Partition in your hard drive without affecting your OS. Just follow the process I've sent.

1.) Go to Start Menu and Type in search area Create and Format Hard Disk Partition.

2.)Open the Create and Format Hard Disk Partition.

3.)Now you can Select the C: and can Partition it with another new drive.

Thank You

I have a dell xps studio 7100 with a 500gb hdd. I want to buy a 2tb and make a secondary drive for storage on my media center. How do i install a second hdd for storing my video files and music?

installing the secondary harddisk may cause to slow the system as to install first change up the ram and then partations of hard disk may be done while formatting so u can store what ever accessarioes u need

How do i restore my laptop when system restore

Your DV 6000 came from the factory with a recovery partation as well as a partation for your user files and data.
If you have not removed this partation, you may be able to bring this partation back into play by hitting F-11 while starting unit.
If the partation is damaged or if you have hard disk damage, this will be useless...
Give it a try, F-11 when starting unit.
Hope this has helped.

SE440BX-2 BASEBOARD-WANT TO INCREASE HARD DRIVE SIZE.

You may need to update the BIOS. When first booting press F2 to enter your current bios. The latest bios for your motherboard is version P17. Also if you see a number with an "86A" in it, the number after that number should be "0024". The bios dated 9/1/2000 is the latest version.

If you decide to update the bios, be _very careful_ to follow all instructions exactly, otherwise you can render your computer useless.

While you are in the bios, and before you try updating the BIOS, check your IDE configuration to make sure that the IDE controller is set to "both." Also in the primary IDE master submenu, be sure that "LBA Mode Control" is set to "enabled." When exiting the bios, if you made any changes described above, be sure to select "save on exit" or similar. Re-boot and try the new drive.

Here's the update website from *********** board.

try to boot your machine using window 98 startup disk or window 98 bootable CD. then type fdisk on DOS prompt. Then try to delete non dos partation and the create primary dos partation. Restart your machine, let it start window or the floppy until it return to dos prompt. Then you can type the format c: e.g a:\format c: or D:\format c:. After that try to run window xp.

I've been using my toshiba laptop for 2 years now and i want to reformat. how will i do it?

Several ways:
1) boot with floppy with o/s(opeating system) with the program FDISK.EXE. & format.com. upon booting up,
1st:: from the A: >PROMPT [type] C: and hit ENTER (or the RETURN ) [type] DIR (thats short for DIRECTORY) note:: U MUST see the directory that is on the C: DRIVE or you are running the wrong o/s [operating system]
Go back to the A: drive ( A: [ENTER])
Run fdisk.exe There are several #s (1-4) pick the # that lets u see the "type" of format u have, take note of any special name that was given the H/D, If u have more then one PARTATION( A drive within a drive)NOTE THE NAME!
" ESCAPE" to main menu.pick the # that takes u to "DELETE".There is a 'submenu' to delete the main H/D or delete the partation[NOTE:: if you have a PARTATION, you MUST delete it 1st."ESCAPE" (u will be going back to the 'main menu' ) chooze "DELETE" again, SUBMENU, delete H/D
REBOOT........U won't be able to "SEE" the h/d after this. From A:>FORMAT.COM c:\ u
