Kenmore 3.8 cu. ft. HE3 Front Load Washer Logo

Stinky clothes my clothes stink from the washer. Then my clothes smell burnt from the dryer. Both machines make my clothes stink I'm so disgusted - I paid so much money for this machine and I'm having the same problem. Stinky clothing and clothing that's not coming clean. To make matters worse, I've owned the machine about 3 years and service has been out at least 4 times - two of which to remove a sock from around the drum. The Tech said to use a sock bag. I purchased a maint. agreement because I could bet that I was for sure going to use it. I'm not using a sock bag - I didn't spend this kind of money to have to sort out my socks!!! Hate to be a winer but I'm sorry I purchased this machine.

My Kenmore front loader also makes my clothes stink to high heaven! What helps is to remove the entire soap/softener dispenser, wash it inside and outside with a 50% bleach solution, then take a rag and wipe out the 'walls' in which the dispenser sits. We get alot of red moldy stuff out that way. Then, as a last resort, we run TWO washes with bleach (and no clothes). It helps for awhile, but within 2 weeks it's back again.

We've also checked the rubber flange around the drum and found the drainage holes clogged with a small sock. Removed that and it helped - but again, only for awhile. It's a shame we spent thousands on the washer/dryer only to have this happen repeatedly. Our last top loader lasted our family 20 years without a hitch. This set will be left with the house when we move!

Usually dark clothes are the problem - they smell like they have been left in there for a week.

I have started using color safe bleach with my dark clothes or a very, very small spash of bleach plus oxy clean and is has solved the problem.

I was getting F02 flashing on my musty smelling HE3 frontloader. I found on line to take the front kick panel off and undo the round cap, (tons of water came out) there is a plastci cylinder in there that was gloged with the smelliest yuk. I cleaned it all out, scrubbed it well and the F02 warning went away and so has the awful smell I have had for 5 years.

I FINALLY discovered the solution to my stinky HE3 Kenmore Elite Washer that I purchased in 2004. It is installed using the laundry tub drain system. I removed the drain hose and discoverd a ton of built-up slim and gook. It was disgusting! I soaked it in a bleach/water solution, scrubbed it out (not easy), rinsed it, soaked it again, blew out debris, rinsed again. I also cleaned out the small elbow where the hose attaches. NO MORE SMELL!!! When the smell returns, I will again clean out the drain hose. I have had a stinky machine for FOUR (4) years. I do all the right things.... use bleach, switched to HE powdered detergents, skipped the fabric softener, use Affresh, leave the door open, remove clothes immediately after washing, never overload, keep tub boot clean. I refuse to pay Sears to have my washer cleaned professionally once a year....their recommendation now when you purchase their front-loading machines. Ridiculous! Hope this works for someone else. Charlene

Be careful with what brand of fabric softener is used. I hate to point fingers or name names but I had found that Snuggle brand softeners do not work well in front loading machines. The have a wax base component in it that leaves a coating in the back side of the drum. I discovered this by doing complete dis-assembly of the machine a found a thick coating of very disgusting mold on the drum frame and tub. It took about three years before the smell started, and no amount of bleach runs in the machine would get rid of it. I had to clean and disinfect the entire unit before the smell disappeared. I would recommend Downy brand softeners and an occasional bleach run after a complete cleaning of the machine.

I have the same problem - the clothes smell like they have been left in there for a week - stale or moldy.

It only happens with dark clothes - I have started adding color safe bleach or oxy clean and sometimes a tiny spash of bleach - it seems to have solved it.

Do not buy an LG Tromm front loader unless you want stinky, moldy clothes! The first few months, I LOVED this washer, but now I think the machine is possessed by smell demons! I've tried everything, but...

Stinky clothes are usually the result of washing in cold water. Cold water will NOT kill bacteria.
Add one cup of vinegar to the wash before you start the machine - try it.
The vinegar will kill the bacteria during the wash. Your wash will NOT smell of vinegar.
The dryer level of dryness on most auto dryers needs to be set three clicks toward + on most machines. LG is no different.

Smelly washer

The disgusting smell is from using too much detergent, using softener or from using only cold water for washing.

The area of buildup is just above the normal waterline where suds and soiled water splash up and don't get rinsed out. To clean this area: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua6OJPn0-fU

The added bulk of the laundry will raise the water level to include the "splash area" intermittent pausing to soak is also a good tip in extreme cases.

My dryer makes my clothes stink

You NEED to have a professional vent company clean your dryer out! PLEASE don't run your dryer when you're alseep or not at home due to a fire hazard! It sounds like the dryer is full of lint that's buring and make sure you clean your lint filter EVERY time you dry a load for safety's sake and energy efficiency.

MY FRONT LOAD WASHER STINKS! THERE IS A MUSTY ODOR COMING FROM INSIDE.

Switch from liquid to powder detergent, no fabric softner (I know...I love it too), clean the gasket and run a cycle with bleach only. Leave the door open whenever possible. This fixed my smelly washer, now if it would only spin!

STINKY CLOTHES

detergent ??? yo are using a HE detergent correct??? foul odors can be attributed to over soaping in clothes this may be a real problem if not and even then you ll need to dramatically cut down on the amount of soap you use.. oneway to determine the "oversoaping " is to take a recently washed sock from the drawer and place it in a cup of water , with oyur fingers agitate the sock up and down in the cup and see of suds form if theres your problem.. this was posted no to question yor laundering techniques, or to be a smarta**, but oyou didnt mention you detergent so just wanted to rule this out.

Towels smell oily and moldy--really stink

Don't use fabric softener. I had the same problem and read somewhere to stop using the fabric softeners. I don't know why but after about two cycles (they smelled really bad) it worked! I always used fabric softeners with out a problem but one day I just started getting REALLY smelly towels. I always take my wet wash out as soon as the cycle ends and dry it completely so I was surprised when they smalled so bad. Give it a try.

Stinky clothes

The big door seal is probably the problem. Put on gloves and using a solution of Laundry detregent and hot water and rags, carefully wipe clean all the folds of the seal. It will be icky. Next run a cycle with some detergent and oxyclean or bleach if you have it.

Especially during warm weather, damp clothing left in a front loader mildew slightly very quickly- you can't really see much but you can smell it! So get the clothes in to the dryer immediately. You'll want to relaunder the smelly clothing after you have cleaned the washer.

Good luck to you and Thank You using FiX YA!
