The gears in the lens cover mechanism in these cameras are susceptible to debris. This will require disassembling the camera and removing the front case to repair. This can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem due to the fact that the camera will need to be partially disassembled and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Camera lens shutter does NOT OPEN!

Seriously this is not worth payi.g to fix unless you paid serious money for the camera. The shutter is also mechanixally tripped by the shutter button. Its a electrical charge that connects to the processing chip inside.

Hi dear, you can try to order the parts from Panasonic and do it yourself.
I strongly recommend you bring your camera to an authorized repair center to get it fix by them.Because it looks simple to open the camera but it's not.

Automatic lens cover won't open

Hi,
Do you mean the shutters which protect the lens? If this is the case, are you able to carefully open them by hand? If so, there is a chance that a bit of dirt is preventing the shutters from opening. You might be able to get rid of the dirt by carefully sliding a bit of paper (I find yellow post-it notes perfect for this) in between the shutter and inside of the lens to shift the possible dirt. Also, you can try putting a minute drop of isopropyl alcohol (used in lens cleaning fluid) in between the shutters and the lens assembly so the possible dirt dissolves - then try to carefully open the shutters by hand. I don't recommend using any other alcohol/liquid for that.

Other than that, it's an absolute pain to get to the shutters to fix them properly on TZ3. Basically, the lens would need to be almost completely stripped-guide to do that would be beyond the scope of this site :)

Good luck,
Raf

Shutter

Do you really mean the shutter? Or do you mean the lens barrier? The lens barrier opens in front of the lens when you go to take a photo.

Assuming it is the lens barrier which is stuck open, the cause is usually dust/grit. A series of "puffs" with a large bulbed blower, e.g.a Giotto, should help clear it.

If it's been caused by liquid ("coke" is a favourite!) then the sugar is holding it open. A little (very little) ethyl alcohol dropped on the lens and allowed to percolate around the barrier area should sort it.

If it is the shutter you mean, then that is a workshop job.

Shutter

You mean the lens protector doors, not the camera shutter. This seems to be a problem on this camera. Aparently you bumped it against something or dropped it. The only way I know of to fix this is to take it apart and set the arm of the spring again into the side as it should be. You cant do it with out takeing it apart.
