I had my wireless network working for my 10 years old computer on the 3rd floor. My Wireless router is in the basement along with my 2nd computer. I just brought a new computer to replace the 10 years old one. So I remove the network adapter from old comp and put it into the new one. The drivers were up-to-date and installed correctly. I see connectivity bars and entered the correct password. However the connection process never reaches the point of acquiring ip address. It just stay at trying to connect and never connect. I reinstall every drivers, move the adapter to another PCI slot, reboot wireless router, checked firewall connection. This computer does work for wired connection.
I did notice that the router is BLOCKING the TCP connection from my computer. The weird part is why does it only block this connection, but for my other wireless laptop it worked. Also this adapter worked for my old computer but not new one? I read other forums here stating that the router may block some MAC adresss. Well how do I unblock it? I thought it was suppose to be plug and play and if you enter the correct WPA key, (like how I do with all my other wireless) that it should work.
Also I noticed that the Dlink connection wizard has error for the new computer and doesn't open. So I used windows wizard to connect wirelessly.
Computer Spec:
Asus P5N-MX mobo
Dlink DWL-G510 wireless (rev. B)
Intel Dual Core E5200
Window XP service pack 3
Thanks,
Mike
1) First you need to check if the router is blocking mac address. Login to the DIR-625 by typing 192.168.0.1 on the address bar of IE.
Use admin for username and leave password blank or type in your password.
Go to Advance Tap, on the left click on Network Filter. Select Turn Off Mac filtering, click on save settings. wait for your to reboot. If that doesn work try option tow below.
2) What you need to do is Upgrade to the latest firmware on your router (Resolves 99% of all problems). Make sure you download the right firmware for there are two version of the DIR-625 ( Rev. A & Rev. C).
You'll also need to make sure you have the latest driver for the adapter since you have a newer computer.

having same issue; laptop connects fine to dir-615, but another xp-home pc with xp-sp2 that connects to dir-615 with dwl-G510 card will not connect to the router. Have all updated firmwire! Any suggestions. Protocol is WEP with shared access on key 1.
I have the same problem. I can connect wirelessly with two computers but then my laptop is blocked when checking the logs. However, if I turn off one of the computers, all of a sudden, my laptop can connect. So I was thinking that maybe the dir-625, can only support a maximum of two wireless connections. I have checked in the settings and can't find a place to raise that number, even if that is possible. Can anyone confirm if this is the answer?
P.S. For the solution #1, I have the updated firmware and drivers, and mac filtering is off. So that didn't solve anything.
