My Sharp R-340D microwave works perfectly but Does NOT HEAT FOOD

Dear All , I have a Sharp Microwave model R-340D . it has worked fine for about 2 years . but suddenly , It stoped to heat at all . All other functions operates pretty well , ie , the lamp is on and the motor rotates during heating . and the timer operates we during the setted heated period . However , NO HEATING occurs . There is NO buzzling sound . What do you recommend me to do . Thanks, Best Regards, Eng.Waleed Said Mohamed . When I hit the Start Button last night, the microwave made a HUGE "POP" and now it wont heat food. Everything else works correctly (clock, display, light, fan, turntable...) but it makes a LOUD noise when it's turned on and it does'nt heat food. HELP It's about 3 years old.

I would say the high voltage rectifier diode has blown.

    See http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.h...

I can help you with finding spare parts if you'll let me know which country you're in.

SOURCE: My Sharp R-340D microwave works perfectly but Does NOT HEAT FOOD

Waleed, Since the microwave is going through all its motions we can feel safe that the oven and magnetron thermostats are ok. If they were bad you would not have a display. Just inside the control panel to the left, you have 3 switches which the door activates. A primary (top switch) a secondary (bottom switch) and a monitor switch (middle). If the primary or secondary switch is not closing when the door is shut, you high voltage side will not activate, therefore no heat. If the monitor switch failed or found either the primary or secondary switch closed with the door open, it would blow the main fuse and the oven would be dead. Therefore Im leaning on either the primary or secondary switch not operating correctly. When checking these switches, unplug and discharge the capacitor. This is high voltage. Good luck

My dcs mo-24-Ss microwave oven cannot heat the food after turn on, everything working fine other than no microwave come out

Assuming the turntable, inside light, and internal cooling fan all work when you press "Start" to cook, then I would suspect a bad magnetron, or a bad connection at the "FA" terminal of the magnetron.

If one or more of those three items do not work when you hit "Start", the I would suspect a bad door switch or mount.

The DCS MO24SS is essentially a rebranded Sharp R-530E-series microwave with different cosmetics and a higher price.

The service manual for the Sharp model is here.

The internal Sharp parts in the manual will interchange, but not the external cosmetic parts.

You can order Sharp parts from Encompass here.

Ge microwave won't heat everything else works fine

Hello t_sumner4756,
Everything else can work perfectly fine but if it doesn't generate microwaves to heat your food than it is not working ( you knew that anyway).. Unfortunately, and in most cases when you microwave stops working in that manner..the components at fault are either the Magnetron, Filament PS or a High Voltage Capacitor..What that means is that you are probably better off just replacing the entire appliance rather than attempting to repair it. If it is a year old or less, bring it back to where you purchased it and have them replace it.. I am sure that is not what you wanted to hear but when the cost to repair exceeds the cost to replace... it just isn't worth repairing.. Plus.. there is an element of danger associated with these kinds of repairs...
Regards,
Rick

Microwave works fine, but wont heat food....

See http://www.gallawa.com/microtech/diode.html for help in diagnosis.

Okay, now that I see the model number, that's a US model:

You can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

3 year old unit, oven works, microwave does not

hi,

You may need a new magnetron, contact sharp or the store you got it from; most microwaves have a 3-5 year warranty on the magnetron. If it's not in warranty, find a good appliance repairman, this is a difficult and dangerous repair job.
