SOURCE: Cobra radar detector speaker replacement
I contacted Cobra via internet site and ordered the speaker. However, it has been on order for over 6 weeks and still not here. I would have figured this would be a relatively high failure item and would be stocked. Thanks for the response. ohmhead
SOURCE: speaker replacement
wow everyones google must be broken (i'm just joking). I found this speaker, it looks like the company is located in arizona. I also contacted cobra and left a message. I'll probably go with whatever is cheaper, it will probably be this one.

Looks like all you have to do is desolder the wires and resolder them on the new speaker then plug it in.
I actually had 2 talking radar detectors go bad (esd-9860, esd-9870) so i took them apart, 9870 had a really small zener diode come lose (probably from leaving it in the sun all these years) and the other one has a completely blown speaker (doesn't make a circuit). The good speaker tested 7.7 ohms with my digital meter.
Figured i'd help you guys out

The best way is to call up cobra or ask them a question through their site.

This will link you to the ask page. Just ask if they will sell you a replacement speaker for the radar detector xrs 747. I just ordered one for a friend and it was $4.32 and $2.50 for shipping.

Most likely the speaker simply blew due to excessive heat. This is a fairly common problem with all makes and models of radar detectors. Contact Cobra. They should either be able to send you a replacement speaker which you can install yourself, or they should issue you a RMA so that you can send in your Cobra for service.
SOURCE: undersatanding the 12 bands of cobra xrs 797
Its all marketing hype. Cobra breaks up the three X, K and Ka bands into sub-bands, and they do the same for the single 904nm laser wavelength. There are no sub-bands for X or K band. In the USA, Ka band radar guns operate on three Ka band frequencies: 33.8, 34.7 nd 35.5 MHz. Cobra also breaks up the single laser band based on the known pulse rates of various laser gun models. Yet in general if you get a laser alert from a nearby cop then likely you have been tagged and will be getting a ticket.
