A number of reasons for this, poor quaility fuel causing vapour lock, over heating due to starter cover vents blocked, cylinder fins clogged, running too lean on the carb mixture settings, fuel tank breather clogged ( slacken off fuel cap when it starts to die, if it picks up again, replace tank breather, or ignition unit breaking down when hot ( only cure is to replace the unit )

Sounds like ignition problem, click overheating or spark plug is not correct. I pressume isn't fouled by to rich mixture of oil. Be sure to not over work saw as it shouldn't be cutting into wood for much longer than 5-10 seconds for each pass.
Keep chain sharp and make sure bar is lubed.

Toro Timecutter 14.38Z Model 74301 Briggs & Stratton Engine Model 280H07-0166-E1 Has NIKKI carb Starts & runs for ~ 15 minutes then stops. Will restart after 5 minutes rest and run...

Recheck spark when the unit cuts out. I am gonna guess you spent a lto of money chasing a bad coil! When a coil starts to go bad they become temperature sensitive. Time does the rest!

Husqvarna Model 51 won't start. Was running fine and has never had a problem starting (owned since new, 14+ years). Chain slipped off. Fixed and then saw wouldn't start. Good bright spark &...

If you have a good spark, and there is fuel at the plug, the only things to stop it fireing up are a sheared flywheel key knocking the timeing out, or the engine has low compression due to wear or damaged piston and ring.

Poulan 446t Will start, won't continue to

The diaphragm in the carb is likely ruined from the gas gelling onto it. This will put pinholes in it and then it won't work properly. Pick up a carb kit and rebuild it (if parts available) and then you should be good to go. If you can't rebuild the carb, a replacement will run you 30 bucks or more.

I have a series 51 husky saw. it starts and runs normally until it gets up to operating temps. then it stalls out and either refuses to restart or just won't restart until it cools down again....

sounds like air fuel mixture screws are out of adjustment..start with the on marked (L)..this is the low speed(idle) adjustment...turn it in all the way just until it stops..but be gentle..then you wnat to turn it out 1 1/2 turns as a starting point..start the engine and adjust it until you get a smooth idle...next, with the saw running, pull the trigger and you should have a smooth response from slow to fast...you can adjust the (H) screw until you get good high speed operation...if these adjustments don't fix the problem thenm yoou may need to have the carb rebuilt( a carb kit is usually only 15-30 dollars)

I have a model 028 AV saw that stops running.

Have you changed the fuel filter of late? Snake it out of the fuel chamber with a little wire. Have you cleaned or replaced the air filter? Read the owner's manual, you can get one online at Makita's site in pdf form, even print it off. While you're at it, treat the saw to a new spark plug. (that's not the problem, but a little candy can go a long way). Finally, make sure everything's nice and clean, squirt a little carb cleaner in and around the carb. Read the manual again, esp the part about adjustments. Use a small screwdriver and go slow. It sure sounds like a fuel problem, I'll bet you a beer. Oh, yeah, wash out the fuel cap too, use the carb spay.
