Kenmore 54501 Dehumidifier does not run. I can turn the unit on... the humidity is set for 1%, I can not change it- I don't know how it got there- I had it set to 40%. The bucket full light blinks... the bucket is empty. The filter is clean, it is not too cold for the unit to run.

SOURCE: Kenmore 54701 (70 pint) dehumidifier stopped running

the lowest setting for % of humidity is 35% on that unit... sounds like with all the other errors that the IC board is bad (the Control circuit board behind the displays)

SOURCE: Dehumidifier Error?

Your bucket full switch may be defective. If you are capable, bypass it since you are draining to another place other than the bucket.

SOURCE: Dehumidifier Error?

Same problem with Goldstar model DH404EY7 -- stop code 01 on startup, bucket full light blinks (drains to floor).

Replaced the main controller board to fix it.

For my model dehumidifer the part # is 6871A20888A, and cost $77.44 (not counting shipping) from Appliance Factory Parts. The Appliance Factory Parts web site also provides parts breakdown (exploded parts diagram) diagrams and service manuals in PDF form.

Normal 0 When you push the power button, the blower fan comes on. In a few minutes you should hear a second "click"--that is your compressor starting. Do you hear that second click?

I've been reading the other questions on this website. Like many others, our 54501 dehumidifier turns on and all controls still work. We just cleaned the filter but it does not collect water. I read...

No, it may mean that you don't have the humidity extraction level set low enough. The lower the setting, the more humidity it will extract. Try setting the extraction level at 35%, to see if the compressor turns ON.

If yours is being used in a basement, the ambient air temperature at floor level is between 40 - 60 degrees. Dehumidifiers do not work well between those temperatures (Unless, you have a Low Temp Unit). This applies mainly to where the air temperature at floor level is colder than at shoulder level in basement applications. Raising the unit up off the floor, onto a sturdy table, counter top, etc, that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full tank of water, will usually resolve this problem.

I hope this helps you further troubleshoot & solve the problem. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

My dehumidifier kenmore model 580.52650 is working fine but turn off and turn back on every three minutes it is this dangerous, any solutions ? THANKS.

I think the problem may be caused by the humidity extraction level you have the unit set on. (i.e. It's set to high). Lower the humidity extraction level to 35%. This will allow the unit to run longer and extract more humidity, before it either shuts off, because the humidity level has been reached or the bucket is full and needs to be emptied.

Don't forget, the air intake filter should be cleaned regularly.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know.

I have the a Kenmore dehumidifier sometimes it runs fine and other times just the fan runs not the compressor or just the opposite the compressor runs not the fan it is only 2 1/2 years old. What should...

Kathy, I'm not sure you have a problem with the dehumidifier. Depending on which mode you're operating it in, the fan will run in an effort to recirculate the air. If the humidity level rises above the level you have the unit set on, the compressor will then turn ON. This is particularly true, if the unit is operating in continual mode. Then there are other times the fan isn't active, but the compressor turns on when the humidity sensor feels a rise in humidity. So, for the most part, I don't think it's a problem.

Just be sure that you clean the air intake filter at least once every two weeks, during times of daily operation.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

I cannot change the set point on my humidity control. It is at 70%. If I press the up arrow i get 2 beeps and no change. When I press the down arrow there is no response at all. Is there some sort of...

The problem is, your trying to raise the humidity level, not lowering. These work in reverse of what you may think. Lower the level (Arrow Down) to 32% and it will continue to run, but will draw more humidity out of the air and will not stop until the water collection bucket is full or the humidity level reaches 32% or you turn it OFF.

When you pushed the Arrow Up Button, it was already on 70%, that's as high as it will go. But that means, you're trying to maintain a 70% humidity level. If it's Summer where you are, I don't think that's what you want.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Does the fan on a Kenmore dehumidifier run continuously, or does it shut off when the set point is reached? I returned a Frigidaire unit because the fan is designed to run continuously.

That depends on the manufacturer and in what mode you are operating it. If it's Continuous Mode. Yes, the fan will continue to run, as it's recirculating the air, in an effort to determine if and when the humidity level rises. Then the compressor will turn ON to extract the humidity.

Also, most units will do this if they are running thru the Defrost Cycle. This happens when the cooling coils frost over. It to, is a normal cycle.

So, if you are operating the dehumidifier in Continuous Mode, it's acceptable.

Of our three 54501 Kenmore dehumidifiers, none produced water after two - three weeks. They run but no humidity is drawn out of the air.

Keep in mind, that a dehumidifier only draws humidity from the air, if the level of humidity is higher than what the controls are set on. For instance, if you have the dehumidifier set on 65 to 70%, that's a high level of humidity to maintain in a house. If you have it set for 35 or 45%, that's a low level of humidity to maintain in a house. Which, generally is what you want to maintain in the hot, humid summer months. I find it uncanny, that all 3 units are not collecting any water. So, it may simply be the case, that the humidity level on each unit is improperly set.

Also, a dirty air intake filter makes the unit strain to keep up and can't take in moisture as it should. So, if you haven't cleaned the filters on a regular basis, not is the time to do so. And while your at it, clean the cooling coils too.

The easiest and best way to test a dehumidifier at home, to see if it's working properly. Is to place it in the bathroom and turn the shower ON and don't operate the bathroom's exhaust fan. Set the humidity level low (45%), turn the unit ON and close the door when you leave. Wait 30 to 40 minutes and check the water collection bucket. If there's water in it, it's working as it should.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know.

When it runs at 35% no problem. Runs constant. Any other setting whenever it turns on it immediately cuts off. Is this user error or broken product?

Sounds like it's working fine. If you've been operating it at 35% it's lower the humidity significantly. If you're turning the humidity level up, there's just not enough humidity for it to sense. So, it turns OFF.
It will eventually come back ON, when the humidity level rises to above the percentage you have it set on.

Hope this helped you. Please let me know.

Dehumidifier shuts off after 2 mins

you might have a compressor problem, in which it won't be economical to repair. if you are using the unit in cold weather then it just might be that there is not enough humidity in the air and it is cycling fast.
