Hi Gwen,
This TV set doesn't have a digital tuner and you will need a digital converter box to receive over the air channels.
You still an antenna to receive the signal and then to connect it to your digital converter box. The programming should be easy.
The converter box should come with the user's guide on how to hook it up and program it.

you can use basic power supply diodes ecg 125s or diodes rated at 60 herts at 2.5 amp. these type of diodes are common to alot of power supply diode bridges and if you have any junk electrical boards then you could borrow them used, don't worry they will last longer than the original new ones which were not very efficient from the start.

That is a specialty bulb. You need to purchace from Sony, online or from a electronics shop. Dont think it even has a size designation on it.

IS THIS A DIGITAL TV

The receivers of many older HDTV READY TVs had two receivers one for analogue and one for digital so that they could accommodate the new Digital signals as they were being broad cast by some stations only a few hours a day until the FCC made up it's mind to switch all stations to digital Since there are no more over the air digital signals, then if you can receive over the air stations with out having to run them through a converter, then you have an HDTV. cable companies send out a converted digital signal for it's older tv owners and a HDTV digital signal for it's HDTV owners, of which they charge a slight premium.

How do I get the HD on this model? Which cables/hook up should I use? I do not have a cable box or set top box but if these are required, please let me know. Thanks!

Your unit is HDTV ready but is not an HDTV. It is capable of displaying HDTV only through the component inputs. Your tuner is analog NTSC and will not receive HDTV or digital.

You could get an HDTV picture using a Blue Ray DVD and hooking up the component connectors from the DVD to the TV.

The only other way would be to get an HDTV tuner with a component output and hook it up the same way, component out to component in, and hook the tuner input to an off air antenna (receiving HDTV) or cable or satellite with HD signals.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

I would like to know if the Hitachi 51UWX20B television can be connected to the internet.

Your Hitachi 51UWX20B is an HDTV-Ready TV. No Digital Tuner. HDTV-Ready means that your TV set is capable of displaying analog and high-definition digital pictures, but without a digital tuner, it cannot receive the digital signal. An HDTV-Ready requires an external high-definition TV receiver (digital tuner) in order to receive HDTV signals. These external receivers can be called an HDTV Tuner, set-top-box, decoder or DTV Converter Box . So you will be required to purchase a converter box to receive over the air programming from an external antenna.

Does this tv have a digital tuner? i thought it did because it said hdtv on it when I bought it in 2004. but I just bought a digital antenna and i'm getting nothing but snow after i scan for channels. is...

Sorry to say, your HDTV-Ready - Requires separate receiver to view HDTV signals. SDTV (Standard Definition) - has built-in digital receivers/decoders and do not require the purchase of any separate components in order to display digital signals. It provides lower image quality than EDTV or HDTV, but higher image quality than analog TV. SDTV is displayed using an aspect ratio of 4:3. I hope this helps and good luck.
Please remember to vote fe52ba2.jpg if this was helpful in any way. Thanks.

Hi! just need to know if my tv is ready for digital tv i have the sony kp-57ws520. i've hooked up my antenna and i still dont get a picture thanks for any info.

Your Sony KP-57WS520 television has an analog tuner, so you may need a digital tuner or a converter box to continue to receive over-the-air programming.
If you subscribe to a cable or satellite service, your television viewing should not be affected by the June 12, 2009, cut-off date for full-power analog broadcasting. Please contact your service provider for complete information.
