Thank you Richard. I pulled it all apart and cleaned it out really good, the motor was extremely dirty. It is running now will see how long it goes for, I'm thinking the motor will be the issue and will replace it then. Thanks for your advice.

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.

Kenmore 70 Series Electric Dryer will not start

It sounds like the hi-limit thermostate and/or the thermal cut-off is what is causing your dryer to shut down. Basically it's over heating. You should replace these two items togeather. Also the thermal cut-off will be triggered by a grounded out heating element. Here is a diagram of where these items are located. hope this helps

I have a 70 series kenmore dryer that is new. it has been working, I took out a load and put in another pushed the start button. It ran for about 2 seconds then stopped and will not start. It has power,...

Sounds like you may have tripped the thermal limit on the motor. Although, usually you will hear a loud buzzing sound when you try to start it. Let it set for about 2 hours, and try to restart. If that doesnt work, the only other thing that could stand in your way is a door switch. The door switch is a very easy and inexpensive repair. The motor is quite a bit more. If you have not cleaned the lint out of the inside of your dryer (requires some disassembly of your dryer), that would be a good place to start and will sometimes allow a thermally overloaded motor to work again. Keep in mind, if it is the motor, they only have so many thermal resets before they are just done. There are instructions on this website if you are interested in trying to diagnose this dryer. Please, make sure before you take it apart, you have it unplugged!
