Loud noise from the freezer side

The fridge is 2 years old, it was making weird noise a year ago, and Samsung replaced the condenser motor/fan (located on the bottom behind the fridge), noise disappeared. Now it is making a loud noise again, coming from the top half of freezer side. The noise is on and off. And it goes away immediately whenever the freezer door is open, comes back once the freezer door is shut. Opening of fridge side door won't make the noise go away. Other than the noise, everything else seems to be working fine (e.g. freezer, fridge, ice maker). The repair center Samsung assigned thinks the cooling fan (I didn't know for sure which fan he meant) could be the problem. Pulled the fridge out to check the condenser fan, seems to be working fine. Any idea what might be wrong or suggestions ?

    Dear DrLingquist:

Thank you so much. When you said "taking off the sheetmetal backing", do you mean the sheet metal behind the fridge (the side of power plug)? I don't see any sheet metal inside the freezer.

    Your help are greatly appreciated.

DrLindquist, I located the sheetmetal, it was not easy to take it off since a wire was connected to it. How long it usually takes to thaw before the plastic housing can be removed? Do you think the noise may go away by unpluging the the fridge and let the whole fridge thaw out? Of course, that may takes much longer and stuff in the fridge/freezer need to be out.

    Thank you so much.

Indeed there was ice build up on the plastic housing. Just plugged the power, Hope this will fix the problem. Thanks a million, DrLindquist.

I agree with you about not buying Samsung again.

My Frigidare side by side with water in the freezer door has some water showing up in the dip of the inner fridge beneath the bottom pull-out drawer. Once full, it comes out to the floor. Can't see where it is coming from, but the water filter does need changing. Can a water filter cause this to happen and if not, what else can? I've checked the freezer and no vents are covered and all else seems to be in working order.

The problem is a buildup of ice on the plastic housing (the curved plastic bit) in the back of the freezer under the fixed shelf where the icetub goes. The fan behind this plastic housing is hitting the ice when the defrost comes on.

Unplug the fridge, unpack the freezer, remove the four screws in the back, take off the sheetmetal backing and let the fridge thaw. You can remove the plastic piece after a while and get the ice off (be careful not to remove the styrofoam insulation by going too quickly).

Reassemble and you're back in business, for a few months. I'm never buying Samsung again myself.

Samsung refrigerator loud noise

if the fan is still running when you open the door , the I would be leaving that idea as a last resort
try this
get 2 taper door chocks and put one either side at the back of the fridge
push the cabinet sideways and slip one chock in a bit then do the other side
many noises are from the bottom plate that the compressor is mounted on from tapping on the floor and lifting it a bit stops the noise
the same as when you open the door the pressure on that plate is removed and so it stops hitting the floor

We have a Samsung Fridge, Model SRS 598 NSS, side by side fridge and freezer. The fridge started making a loud noise when the door was opened as if the fan was coming to a halt. We had someone come out...

sounds like the motor is bad. if you have a warranty have him change it regardless if he thinks it is bad. the motor should not be noisy. If no warranty then have him check motor very good. also low refrigerant charge as well as it running too long can freeze it up and stop the fan. most refrigerators are designed to be against the wall this can be a factor in a freeze condition. I hope this helps you!

I have a Samsung RS21DPSM side by side fridge under 2 years old and the other day a loud noise was coming from fridge Sounds like a fan as when you open fridge door it grinds to a stop) compartment and...

There is a design problem with this model. The fridge section is icing over due to a design defect and the noise you can hear is due to the fan on the motor driving against the ice. Eventually the motor will be stopped from running and the fuse will blow in your plug. Contact Samsung and they should replace the defective parts with a fix.

Loud humming noise as fridge is running

Sounds like the freezer fan is rubbing some wires or possible some foam insulation around the fan. I would look into the freezer compartment fan and go from there. The fan Will Shut off when you open the doors. Let me know how you make out and if you need anymore help.

Thanks,
Bill
