your wireless card may be diabled through windows. Right click on the wireless card icon in network and make sure it says "disable", meaning if you select it it will then be disabled.
Shouldn't need any "tweaking". Not sure offhand on the c700, but manytimes the Compaq bios is limited (and I'm a Compaq user - servers, desktops & laptops). What is itexactly that you're trying to achieve? I replaced Vista on my F500 series first with XP and finally with Linux - no problems (other than initially finding drivers). Just make sure to download and build an XP driver disk beforehand and you won't have any problems.

The key on your keyboard is a shortcut to launch software.
Check near your clock on your taskbar or in control panel...if usung Windows wireless...if you are using 3rd party...then look in your program list to launch the program.
