Husky Rancher 455 is not delivering enough oil to the bar...ports are clean, bar is clean and oil is coming through port on the saw. Brand new chain is now dirty after one tank full. Leak somewhere? It's a 16" bar set on highest setting and "oil test" only sprays a little...Thanks, Andy

A few of things here, the pick up pipe can get kinked thus slowing the oil flow down, the filter on the end of the pick up pipe may be partly blocked,if you are using non fling oil and the outside temperature is very cold you may need to thin the oil to allow a better flow, finally you can modify the pump shaft, this is done by increasing the angle on the end of the pump piston ( the bigger the angle the bigger the throw of the shaft and the more oil is pumped ) this is a final resort and has to be done with care, you have to remove the shaft from the pump body and hold against a grind stone to increase the angle

SOURCE: chainsaw leaks chain oil when not in use

The oiler on most chainsaws is designed to be gravity fed. For that reason, if there is oil in the oiler it will drip out. There is no fix to this except for awareness. When possible stop work when you need to refill the oiler. when not possible, expect it to leak and plan for it. for example, store the saw in a tray with some oil-dri absorbant clay in the bottom.

SOURCE: 455 rancher will not produce oil for the chain.

Also make sure that where the oil is pumped against the side of the bar that the oil port (little hole) that feeds oil into the bar's slot is clear. Mine would go through a tank of oil with each tank of gas, but the chain wasn't getting oiled until I cleaned out this little hole.

SOURCE: Fuel Mixture Husqvarna 455 Rancher Chain Saw

Page 17 of your Operator's Manual says 50:1.

Fuel/Oil Mixture

  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 8oz/2gal - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (Stihl 2.6oz/1gal)
  2. Most gas in the US of A contains ethanol; not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few months. Anything over 6 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

SOURCE: Oil is leaking out the bottom of the saw after

check the hose that goes to the oilway if everything checks clear you may have a crack in your oil tank due to excessive vibration and weak molding.

I have a new 455 rancher chainsaw husky 20inch bar chain keeps coming off new chain

You may have a bent bar, or you could be putting the chain on a little too loose. Perhaps the chain is not getting lube ?
Possible that the chain tentssioner and or adjustment is loosening up as you are using the unit. Other than that maybe a defective new blade ?

455e rancher oil tank leaks from the rubber hose that transports the oil to chain-bar. How do I change it and where can I buy it? Thanks

There are two hoses, the delivery hose and the pick up hose, to remove the delivery hose, start by removing the chain brake ( make sure is de activated before removing by pulling the hand guard fully back to the top handle ) now remove the clutch, there are two cut a ways in the clutch centre so as to insert a flat screw driver, now strike the end of the screw driver with a suitable hammer to jar the clutch off against the compression of the saw ( the clutch is just spun onto the crank with a left hand thread ) once off remove the sprocket and bearing, now remove the screw securing the silver protection plate over the bar pad and remove it, you can now just lift away the delivery hose, to replace the pick up you will have to remove the screw securing the oil pump and remove it, the pick up hose has a moulded grommet in the centre so you will have to diss lodge it to pry the hose from the oil tank, check out the web for sellers of these components, the part no.s are below.adw1_16.jpg

No chain oil feed

not sure if the 455 rancher is the exact same as my rancher but when the oil feed on my saw seems slow i remove the chain and bar and clean the chain grove. pay special attention to the end that is near the motor there are a couple of places that allow the oil to flow from the saw body to the chain groove and then subsequently to the chain

My saw is not oiling enough. It only uses approximately 1/4 tank of oil per gas fill up. I cleaned out the tank until the filter is clean and adjusted the oiler screw to it's most open position. What...

Release the chain brake and remove the bar and chain. Clean the engine area where the bar fits to, then start the engine--oil should ooze out of the side port. In that case, clean the bar drive-end small oil passages that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on each edge. These passages commonly plug with sawdust/dirt over time and cause greatly reduced oil to the chain/bar. When all is back together, run the saw at speed with the bar tip near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after a moment or two of running. Adjust the oil volume screw to achieve that result. Hope this helps!

Husqvarna 455 Rancher - oil coming out of muffler and not oiler. Just emptied gas and remixed new batch so that should not be issue. It was working fine until I took off chain cover to clean and got brake...

Re-clean the engine case and loose parts. Start the engine with the bar removed--oil should ooze out of the side port where the bar fits to, but nowhere else. Clean the bar drive end oil passages--especially the two small channels that go out to the chain groove on both sides. If you seem to be pumping excess oil out, there should be an oil volume adjustment screw either in the back case or just underneath the case near the lower run of chain. Turn the screw CW to lessen the volume of oil. Hope this helps!

I have a rancher 455 chain saw and i dont think my oil pump is oiling my chain is there a way to turn it off and on

Remove the bar and chain, then start the engine. If the pump, lines, and filter are good, oil will ooze out of the engine side port. If it does, clean the oil passages in the drive end of the bar that run from the large holes out to the chain groove on each side of the bar. Clean the entire chain groove and oil the sprocket on the tip. Clean the port area on the engine case. Re-install the bar and chain, then run the engine at speed for a few moments with the bar tip near a piece of cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil onto the cardboard. Hope this helps!

What is the longest bar i can go on my 455 rancher saw ?

Available power and the amount of oil may both be a limiting factors. Your oiler has a 3 position adjustment (as do most intermediate level Huskies) with 20" being the longest recommended. My 359 is virtually the same and I run a 24" Carlton bar on mine with no problem. If you opt for a longer bar let the saw determine cutting speed. Come on over, my bar and chain will fit your saw, try it before you buy it. If you have an acquaintance with a 24" small mount Husky bar that is probably a good idea. I would likely not recommend a 24" bar if regularly cutting Oak or a hard wood, I do a lot of Fir.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.
