Hi, I have a Central Pneumatic air compressor model 94667. The start capacitor burned, so i replaced with a similar size cap. It went fine for 3 minutes and the new capacitor got smoked and started to pop. I'm thinking the centrifugal switch didn't shut down the current to the start cap, so it's overloaded and burned. I can't find any centrifugal switch on the motor. Can you please tell where it is or how to fix this issue? Thanks.

We get many chinese compressors with burned capacitors. Most seem to use a 140 uf 250v ac metal run cap.(fairly large metal ). The cap will test bad but not look burned. The motors look pretty crude in the way that they are wound (no start winding) and varnish used on the wiring will not take the heat like other motors. Most likely faulty windings. If you try another cap (or two caps to make value)make sure that the voltage is 250 or higher and run type (metal or light color plastic, not the black start caps) (the higher the voltage the better the quality of materials used ). If the checkvalve is faulty at the tank, the motor will have a higher load at start and run (with out start winding motor works harder to start, if all components are not working correctly, motor /cap will overheat ). Check before next test. Good luck

will a new 450 VAC Capacitor work with a old 250 VAC Capacitor both have same 75 uf reading .

Yes, good choice, the higher the voltage rating makes for a better longer lasting capacitor. Usually the higher voltage rating makes for a larger capacitor and harder to fit under the cover.

I have a Central Pneumatic 61454 - 21 gallon air compressor. It trips breaker and wont start. If I manually turn the fan by hand while I turn the switch on it will start and run fine. Any ideas?

Question edited for clarity.

Replace the Start Capacitor. Some have a combined Dual Start/Run capacitor. The capacitor gives it a jolt to get it moving which you are doing by hand.

My Central Pneumatic (mdl 94667) is limiting its output to about 50 psi and below. I am able to adjust it lower but it will not go any higher. The tank pressure is always well over a 100psi. Any...

It sounds like the regulator you use to adjust the hose pressure is not working properly. Sometimes they can be affected if dirt or rust particles get into the regulator. You might be able to disassemble and clean it although some regulators are quite complex and require knowledge and insight in regulator repair to perform. It may also be the regulator is defective or worn out and needs to be replaced. Given the cost of the relatively low cost of the compressor it was likely not a very high quality regulator to start with and needs to be replaced.

Hi I have a Central Pneumatic model 94667 air compressor that was working fine, now it will not shut off when it gets to the usual shut off pressure. thanks. George.

make sure it is actually achieving full shutoff pressure. I had the same compressor and had a valve crack and the compressor would run nonstop but never got above about 40 psi.
