There are three fans: 1)Cooling fan(on the optical block)part# 1-787-057-11 2)Ballast fan part# 1-787-081-11 3)Upper optics fan part# 1-787-460-11 Also make sure you don't have a noisey iris motor in the optical block (verify by adjusting the iris settings in the menu and see if the noise level changes)

I have over 10 years experience in electronic tech support.
I
know this isn't what you want to hear, but the problem you've described sounds like one of the circuit boards that control the picture quality needs to be replaced. The cost of the board would likely be in excess of $200. There are usually several boards in a TV like that that control the picture and when one goes, you can get anything from lines in the picture to poor picture quality from blurriness. The main question is do you want to spend $1000 to fix a used TV?
I hope I've provided you useful assistance and that this information

With all due respect, you're asking the wrong people. Only Sony can tell you if you're too late but my experience has been that they're normally pretty fair with considering out of warranty goodwill repairs.
Ask Sony and if they can't help then come back and ask about your problem on FixYa.
