I have a Pentax ZX-m Auto with manual o/ride that has the mirror box that is not stuck but will not move down with the shutter..It stays in the closed position. I took it to the local camera shop & they don't know how to fix. It's out of warranty but barely used. It's clean & batteries are new. Suggestions welcomed...

The problem with the mirror is 1 of 3 things, 1 mirror box is distorted from being dropped, 2 mirror motor striped teeth or burnt out, 3 batteries. Try fresh good quality batteries first, that fixes lots of problems in cameras. if its the mirror box or motor then its time to go camera shopping.
This camera came out in 1997 so is an old model. It was brought out as a very basic model, no frills. 1 hour of a camera tech's time is worth double what the camera is worth so dont even bother getting it repaired.

SOURCE: Mirror locked up

Older cameras like this are notorious for locking up after not being used for quite some time. Though, it is an easy fix, it does require some steady hands and a good memory of where everything was after you're taken it out or apart. The best solution for this is, once you've taken it apart and have access to the mirror, is to have a q-tip with a little vasoline on the tip, apply a thin (very thin) layer along all springs and joints surround the mirror and around the edges of the mirror opening, while avoiding getting any vasoline on the mirror itself. I've worked with cameras all my life and have worked at camera shops, and what I've explained here is exactly what a camera repair place would do. But, if you don't feel comfortable with small parts and tiny screws, a camera shop will gladly fix it for you, and not at a bad price.
So, Good luck! Hope this helps. I hope you're out taking photos soon!

SOURCE: the mirror on my pentax pz1 (film) camera is stuck

Mirror lockup often occurs if the batteries are flat.

Try new batteries first and if the problem remains please report back for further options.

My Pentax ZX-7 (MX-7) mirror is stuck

This camera can be notorious for these types of film advance issues. The bad news is that a ZX-7 is probably not repairable. Good news is that there are many used Pentax bodies out there that will work with you lenses.

Can we repair/replace the lcd of old film cameras? I have an old pentax sfx camera and its lcd does not work.

I just checked my SF-1, and the mirror will go through four cycles while trying to load the film. You should be able to hear the mirror go up and down when you open the back and close it, then turn the camera on. I cannot get my SF-1 to keep the mirror up. Check to see if you have the mode set to bulb, and that the shutter release isn't stuck down - that will keep the mirror up until you release the shutter button or turn the camera off.

Also look carefully inside the lens mount on the side nearest the red dot. at the horizontal spot there is an internal button. It should be at the bottom of the track it runs in, about 1/3 of the way from the screw below the red dot to the lens release button. That moves up when the mirror goes up, and down when it comes down. If it is in the up position, you could perhaps try to gently move it downwards. It definitely moves up and down with the mirror on my SF-1.

The shutter on my Pentax zx-50 SLR is stuck in the open postion. I can't see anything through the view finder nor will it focus automatically. However, it will advance the film upon taking a snapshot and...

if its just a sticky mirror you could try to very genteely flip it down again but if the shutter is jamed in its sliders it could need to go to a camera shop to get it "fully serviced!" also check its not just the shutter lock button stuck in, or the shutter is locked open,

The shutter is stuck...all I see is black

Your second curtain is not releasing the mirror to come down.
This happens with weak 2nd shutter curtain tension.
If the wind lever is stuck and the mirror does not come down then the mirror tension spring came off.

first make sure the mirror is fully down. if down
take your MZ50 to a camera store and try a different lens. if it does the same thing then your camera needs repaired. flex circuit,
if the different lens works then the lens needs repaired.

Pentax ME Super Shutter and Rapid Wind Button...

anmolag,

it could be the rubber bumper next to the fresnel lens has become sticky. very gently ( after removing lens ) try to bring mirror down without forcing it. it should release easily.
if not, rotate the select knob off auto. open film door and check that the shutter is fully deployed, shutters should not be overlapping.
remove screws from bottom cover and remove cover, keep camera up side down so that re-wind button stays put. there is a locking lever under the take up spool ( gray ) . with a pin move lever toward film door and bring advance lever fully to the right , then let it go so it returns quickly.
the shutter should have fired. if not the camera will need to be repaired. get an estimate first as there are no new parts available.

Film Advance Will Not move

Hi,powerpe. The mirror release rod can be located in the bottom of the body once the plate has been removed.(there are three screws on the old k1000's) There is a gear train on the left side when viewed turned over. The mirror cockong rod is towards the rear and a little right of the main shaft. You might need to move a little silver pawl with a pin or micro driver then you can push the mirror **** in to release the reflex mirror.the mirror cocking rod is about 1/8" dia.Hope this helps

Pentax zx-50 Shutter Problems?

I really think this is the classic zx - 50 shutter motor problem : small motor on the side of the mirror box is not cocking the shutter . This is very repairable but unfortunately it requires fair amount stripping down of the camera to get to the fault and so you will have to take it in for repairs.

Slr mirror is stuck. remove the lens and try to slightly move the mirror up and down ( but not forcing it to move!)and pushing the shutter switch. Try also applying lighter fluid in the mechanism while operating or shooting, fluid will help loosen the stucked mechanism.
