"F1" error code on Magic Chef gas range Model 3488XRA

When you plug the stove in , the clock display starts beeping and displays error code "F1" and doesn't stop until you unplug the unit. If you plug in again you get the same error.

On a diagnostic web site I found the following information: "F1" error means either (1) Watchdog on board or (2) touch membrane defective.

- What do these mean?
- Is there any inexpensive solution to this problem? CAn anything be disconnected so that the stove works properly without getting the errer? The range is close to 10-15 yrs. old. The gas range has themicrohood connected. I'm not for sure how old this model is.

The F1 code beeps atno apparent usage. Usually, it occurs duringthe midst of the dayand night. Again, after resetting it occursagain.

    Regarding the magic chef 3488xra...

From what I've read on the web, the fix is somewhat expensive and is apparently only a temporary solution. These membranes are definitely defective. California brought a class action for the problem several years ago and won. Too late for us.

The beeping occurs for me about twice a year and lasts about 2 weeks each time. I just shut it off with a remote during the beeping fits and turn it on when I need to for cooking. Eventually, it stops beeping for months only to start again down the road.

If it works otherwise and your stove isn't hard wired, buy an outlet remote control from homedepot or other home supply for about 10 dollars. Put it between the outlet and stove. Use the remote when you have the beeping issue. The only thing you lose is having the actual time on the clock. Not an issue for me.

Remote is small and on a keychain so it can be hung nearby the stove for easy access.

I'm not sure how to fix this, but my mom's magic chef has been doing this for close to 10 years. She's managed it by plugging a power strip into the wall outlet and plugging the stove into the power strip. Then she can just turn on the strip when she needs to use the oven. It only requires moving the unit once, and is easy for the technological/ home repair novice.

I have a Magic Chef gas range/oven/stove model #3468VTV. Fault code F1 apprears and the range continually beeps. According to the Manual it states F1: Condition: touchpad membrane defective or clock...

UNPLUG...Then you need to open the control panel and there is a ribbon cable you remove from the main control board then plug the unit back in to see if the F1 is gone if so you need to replace the Touch pad

Have a magic chef oven, f1 display after self cleaning, stove top works fine, any thoughts

F-1 is a fault code.

Disconnect the power plug or turn range power off at circuit breaker. Wait a couple of minutes, then plug the range in or flip the range circuit breaker to ON.

Oven control beeps & displays any F  code error (for example
F11) - Electronic control has detected a fault condition. Press
CLEAR/OFF to clear the display & stop beeping. Reprogram
oven. If fault recurs, record fault number. Press CLEAR/OFF
contact an authorized service agent.
