The top of the unit has alot of condensation on it. so i am wondering if its freezing up inside. Have set point at 55% what can i do to fix the issue

(1) Make sure that the fan is turning OK as dust often gums-up the bearings. (2) Make sure that the heat exchangers are not clogged with dust. If the main motor, the so-called pot, is running but no cooling results it could be

(A) The refrigerant has been lost. This is an extremely bad fault which makes the unit a basket-case. The reason being that even if a self-piercing filling point is added to recharge the unit with refrigerant, unless the leak is found and fixed the repair will be a nine day wonder.

(B) This fault is more likely and the fix is do-able. It is quite likely that the machine is stuck in its defrost cycle. Wiring problems, thermistor problems or relay problems are all possibilities. Some machines use an electric heater on the evaporator (the part that freezes-out moisture from the air) If the heater is stuck on, the evaporator will never become cold enough to work. The more usual defrosting method is Hot Gas Purge and if this is the type used there will be a special electrically operated valve in the refrigeration circuit. Often the default is to defrost-on-start-up so its easy to listen to the valve to see whether it clicks. Good luck!

Check fan speed. Also if coil (it's the evaporator) is clean.

Was there any instructions with the control board? I'm assuming we are talking about a heat pump control board or defrost board.
Some have time or temperature settings on the board that needs set. There's a lot of different boards out there, some have jumper pins and some have dip switches, you almost need either the unit installation instructions or the instructions that should have came with the board. Not sure if this will help you but if it doesn't you may need to contact a dealer or the company that made this unit.

Most dehumidifiers need warmer air to work properly. The temperature in a basement is usually 60 - 65F; too cool for standard models. You could buy a "basement" dehumidifier. They're designed to work at lower temperatures; some as low as 40 F. Costs are about the same as a standard dehumidifier; you just have to find it.

For a cheap fix, try this; it seems to be working for me.

Since the condensate coil (the one icing up) is cold, the air entering it is too cool and the condensate frosts up the coil. Additional condensate freezes to the frost and before you know it, you've got a block of ice. Since the air coming out of the front is very warm take a large piece of cardboard around 6' x 3') and form a V. Placed it in front of the dehumidifier so it channels some of the warm air back to the rear where it warms the moist air up before it hits the cooling fins. It's helped keep the ice down.

If you want something attractive, any screen that redirects some of the air back to the rear will work. Just leave the top open so it doesn't get too hot and the some of the drier air gets out into the room.

You may also want to check the coils and make sure they do not have dirt or dust on them. If they are clean you may have an issue with the refrigerant level which will cause the coils not to cool properly. For that you will want to contact LG. There could be an issue with the compressor also. LG backs alot of their models with a 5 year warranty. Contact them and let them know about your issue. Make sure you still have your reciept. Check to see that the air is flowing freely through the dehumidifier. They will accumulate dust particles and become plugged. Also make sure that it is not freezing up (you would see ice forming inside through the vent openings). I have had to remove the case to clean lint from some units to get them to operate more efficently. Always unplug the unit to clean and service it.

It sounds like your unit is freezing up. Let it set for a day then set to run on the 3 hr cycle. Also rase the % of humidity to 60 or 65, and if it starts working lower the % setting in a few days by 5% increments until you get to the setting you want. Also read your owners manual troubleshooting section lots of good tips.

You have a refrigerant charge that is "flashing" in the compressortor "pot" instead of in the evaporator. When it flashes in the evaporator, the latter gets cold and then the air going over it releases its moisture, it collects, and then drips into the pan.

If you have not had any work on the unit and have not had anyone mess with the refrigerant charge, it cannot be overcharged so I would assume at this point that there is some sort of obstruction inside the system that is causing the issue. Yeah, take it in for professional evaluation and repair. But if you had someone gas it up, there is too much in there.

A dehumidifier will often frost up if room temperatures are colder than about 65 degrees F. If your room temperature isn't this cold, airflow to the unit may be restricted or blocked entirely. 1) Be sure the unit is set far enough from the wall so that airflow isn't restricted. 2) Clean the evaporator coils. To do this, unplug the dehumidifier and take off the outer cover. Allow excess moisture to evaporate from the coils. Then, using a brush attachment on a vacuum cleaner, remove all dust buildup. If necessary, cover the motor and electrical parts with plastic sheeting and spray with water.
