possible ways to remedy this problem: problem of weak beverage solutions: 1. Filter Type-BUNN paper filters must be used for proper extraction. 2. Coffee Grind-A fine or drip grind must be used for proper extraction. 3. Sprayhead-A six-hole stainless steel spray- head must be used for proper extraction. 4. Funnel Loading-The BUNN paper filter must be centered in the funnel and the bed of ground leveled by gentle shaking. 5. Water Temperature- Place an empty funnel on an empty dispenser beneath the sprayhead. Initiate a brew cycle and check the water temperature immediately below the sprayhead with a ther- mometer. The reading should not be less than 195F (91C). Adjust the control thermostat to increase the water temperature. Replace if necessary.
When the coffee is weak, that is often because the water is not at adequate temperature.
Check if the coffee is in right quantity and pressed in the right way. If it is than it means that the water was not hot enough.
Check water temperature, if water is completely cold, the element mus be replaced, if water is hot, but not enough, then replace thermostate activating the pump.
If it comes out in a steady "stream" it sounds like the sprayhead is missing. The sprayhead disperses the water out and evenly over the grounds. If the sprayhead IS in place then it could be a temperature problem. If the temperature is not hot enough the coffee will not brew correctly.
Probably a bad thermal switch. My wife had the same problem with hers and I recently fixed it.
What is the temperature of the coffee when if finishes brewing? It should be around 190 degrees F. If it is cooler than that it indicates the switch is turning the heater down too soon. This means the pot doesn't circulate hot enough water through the grounds and the coffee ends up weak.
Replacement switches are available from http://www.goodmans.net although the one I got wasn't an exact fit I made it work.
Hello, I have worked on many bunn and other make ice tea makers but am not too familiar with this one, but as is common to all there should be 2 timers, one for the hot one for the cold. They are normally located under the top panel or inside the front panel. for 3 gallons you should be brewing 64oz of hot water through the 1oz tea bags (3-4) depending on taste as a rule of thumb. Please feel free to comment again if you have any other questions. Good Luck! Mike
I thoroughly cleaned my 4-cup percolator by brewing a couple of pots of plain white vinegar and scrubbing the build-up from the bottom of the pot (and running a couple of plain water brews through the pot after all the cleaning). The percolator now brews hot, strong coffee again!
Make sure you are not using the paper filter and the permanent filter at the same time. Make sure the chute undernetah the grind basket is clear of grounds, moisture.
It sound like you are either missing the sprayhead or the temperature isn't hot enough. Check first to see if the sprayhead is there. It fits under the brew basket and looks like a little shower head - it's round and has usually five or six little holes in it. If it is missing your coffee will be weak due to the water not being spread across all of the grounds evenly. The other thing to check is the temperature. Depending upon where you live the water should be between 185F - 200F. If the water is below that temperature the coffee may look like tea.
