I have a couple of Sylvania DVC-840E DVD Player / VCR Combo unit at the place i work and they are stuck in progressive scan mode how do i turn that mode off? i have the remote as well just in case it is needed.

Try the (Goldstar and Zenith) trick - with the unit on, but no discs inserted, press and hold STOP button on the front (not the remote) for 10 seconds, then release. This should revert progressive back to normal interlace output for your TV and may also turn off the progressive LED indicator on your unit.

I mentioned 2 other brands in parentheses - because the (press and hold STOP for 10 seconds) trick works for progressive on those.

I think you activate the progrresive scan function disable it on the menu

it could be that the mottor that makes the dvd cd tray open and close is not working you may nee to have it changed so that it may start working once again.

Have looked through the manual Sylvania DVC-800C DVD Player / VCR Combo and there is no mention of a tape not ejecting. if its under warranty give the dealer a ring. If dvd`s stick and nothing more can be done then have tried the belo. http://www.ehow.com/how_2036282_remove-dvd-player.html

Goldstar dvd/vcr combo was stuck in progressive scan. I used the posted solution and now it is out of progressive scan but it continuously reads the dvd and I cannot get the dvd to play. "Reading" conitues to appear on the screen. Any suggestions?

to turn it off select connection method 3 above and progressive scanning mode, to set the mode, set progressive to off in the display menu so that the p scan indicator light on the front panel goes out. do all of this in interface mode. you can also do this by pressing and holding PLAY > on the front of the unit for more than 5 seconds, still watch for the p scan indicator to go off. this works best when the unit is connected directly to the television.

turn on dvd, make sure the disk is out, press and hold the stop button for 5 seconds and it should go back to the picture

First try to clean the laser lens with a lens cleaning disc. Next if that doesent work clean it manually
