Never used, just took it out of box. sews only in reverse. cannot get it to sew foward Please help. Thank you

Please double check that you've not selected any automated option while using the reverse stitching. If so, please unselect the automated option and test reverse stitching again.

1/28/13 - I have Janome Harmony 2049 that was initially sewing forward with no reverse and then after about 12 inches of sewing would ONLY sew in reverse. After spending an hour getting the plastic housing off...I was able to locate the shaft that made the reverse. It needed lubrication and after working it in and unjamming the part from the down position, the forward and reverse now work!

Wipe away as much of the oil as you can.

Only oil a sewing machine as indicted in the manual for the machine.

When a lever/gear is stuck, try warming the area with a hair dryer. This will loosen old lubricant.

If the problem continues, the machine needs to be seen by a professional sewing machine service tech.

Google the item name and model and see if they have a website with a store locator or repair center.

In the center of the stitch length knob (at the right side of the machine) is a button. You would push that button in to get the machine to reverse.

Dud you pull the button hole lever down so that it engages the foot?

Having the exact same problem, oiled the machine, but I still can't change stitches...any advice?

The timing is either 180 degrees out or you have got it in reverse. Look in your user manual
