I rescanned the channels after our area has gone digital and this went OK but now the TV won't come on and the standby light just keeps fashing as though its trying to come on. I left it all last night in this state but unplugged it last night as I didn;t want to be woken at a stupid time if it came on.

You did the opposite of what might be useful. Completely cut of it's AC supply, pull the plug out of the socket and leave it like that for 10 minutes.
Plug back in but first making sure the manual power button is off on the set, not in standby mode.
(pushed in)
Then push the manual button to restore standby mode and switch set into full on mode with the remote.
It will either have "rebooted" and work straight away or you'll need to put it into Auto Set Up mode.
Proceed as the first sections relevant from the instructions.

Ok This is what I found out and hopefully found your solution..
Have you heard of Double Rescan?
The Federal Communication Comission Designed a Process called double rescan.
Double Rescanning erases and thenreprograms the channels in the converter box an digital TVs memory.
To Double Rescan, you will first need to disconnect the antenna from the converter box or antenna.
Then disconnect the converter and or digital tv power supplies from the wall. Wait a minute before plugging them back in. The antenna should still be disconnected.
With the antenna disconnected run the channel scan function on the coverter box or digital tv. When the scan completes you will have completely removed any channel data the converter box or digital tv, had in its memory.
Now it's time to rescan for real.
Do this by reconnecting the antenna to the converter box or digital tv and running the channel scan function again.
Thus the double rescan is born.
If the double rescan doesn't work, then try some tips and tricks to get your converter box up and running..I will have to look up the url again that has the tips and tricks...
If the double rescan doesn't work let me know and I will look up more options..
I really hope this works..

My uview keeps giving me the wrong area

You need to do a Full Factory Reset tuning rather than just a rescan.

Rescan simply looks at the place holders where the old channels were stored and refreshes them. A Factory Reset (A.K.A. Shipping Condition) wipes the channel memories and starts again fresh.

Since the channel retune on Sept 3rd some stations have moved.

Sony KDF-42WE655 won't retain channels scanned

I believe, after seeing this problem elsewhere with similar devices, you need a certain firmware installation to enable the TV to keep its memory. This is a common problem with many TV brands, has been for years. There is no sure fix for it. It could even be the types of signal being broadcast; most likely there isn't anything you can do yourself to fix this except leave the TV in standby mode when you know you're only leaving for a little while. And if you're a watch TV when you get home kind of person, just immediately switch the TV on when you get home and set auto program; by the time you're settled in it will be done. As you can see it's a bit of extra but not too big an inconvenience. This is something I personally wouldn't mind too much myself if I watched a lot of digital TV.

Vizio tv dropped a channel, won't rescan

Try with the remote to direct enter the channel number (with the number buttons and or enter) If set makes it there go into menu for option to manually add it to the set memory.

Not likely a problem with your set.

My LG TV red light won't turn on. although the plug fuse and the remote OK

Try manually pressing the power/standby button on the tv (side or bottom) the red light should appear, most modern tv's will turn on simply by pressing the channel up or down on the tv itself.. But unfortunately in most cases, this seems to be an internal surge and needs a professional to inspect..

Hello!
If you have used your TV 24/7 for the past year, the issue might be in the power supply. If there are "bloated" capacitors, set will not start up. If you haven't unplug it for a year, it might be staying alive. Once you unplugged the set, those capacitors won't let your set back to normal. That's a big project and requires technical background. If you think you can handle that, open your TV set and inspect TV's power supply board. It will be located near power cord plug or wire. Also, it might be covered by tin shield, which must be removed for further observation. If you see any "bloated" electrolytic capacitors, replace them with same value and voltage. But it might be main board's issue, as well. what is your place's ambient temperature? If it's lower, than 75F, try to warm up the back of the set, before even trying to poke it open. Use hair dryer. First, point it on main board's in/out connectors. Do not overheat! Few minutes might be enough. Then, try to plug the set in and observe the behavior. Any change? turns on? Main board is bad. Same with power supply. If heating up main board area does nothing, try power supply area. If it makes a difference, start looking for bad capacitors.
Good luck,
Let me know results.
Thanks,
Alex.

After the digital transition, I lost one of the local channels. When I rescan, all of the other local channels come in no problem. ABC Channel 12 in Flint Michigan is gone. I had it no problem on...

Try the recommendations in a document posted on the FCC site (http://hraunfoss.fcc.gov/edocs_public/attachmatch/DOC-291403A1.doc)

Also be aware the several stations have had problems with the transition. Some changed frequencies on which they were transmitting and encountered area coverage issues that didn't meet their expectations. They have been working with the FCC to remedy the problems and many stations have temporarily increased output power to compensate for the issues. Some of these stations may be difficult to receive and you may need to get larger antenna. If you are still having problems call the FCC DTV transition hotline at 1-888-CALLFCC (1-888-225-5322) or the TV station for advice.

Local channel went digital, lost signal.

You need a digital to analog convertor box to recieve the digital signal.
