My microwave was just working great the other day. Now, when we go to heat something up, it comes on and makes the sound of things working fine. However, the food is not getting ANY heat going to it. We tried to put the vent on and run it, but that didn't work, either...

It may be a bad fuse or capicitor. I have had a time in the past with something similar. I contacted Repair Clinic.com. They were very helpful with their advice and even followed up to make sure I got things fixed okay.
I had an arcing sound coming from above the cardboard panel inside the microwave. When I saw it sparking I took the cover off and saw that these two aluminum looking things had come loose. I removed the cover and did a fair bit of 'fine tuning' to get it working again.
The buzzing sound could be from loose laminations on the high voltage transformer, or from loose mounting screws for the transformer. This requires investigation by a qualified technician as there are lethal voltages associated with the transformer. It could also be from a loose cover. First check that all the cover screws are tight.
When the microwave won't heat, but you hear a loud buzz, you usually have a defective power diode, high-voltage capacitor, or magnetron. We recommend that you consult with a qualified appliance repair technician for help in determining the problem and deciding what to do about it. thanks and please do not

I hate to tell you this but your magnetron may be shot. Its the part that actually makes the microwaves. The best thing I can recommend is get a new oven, magnetrons are expensive and not easy to replace.
you may have gotten a power surge and that can cause some funny things to happen, 1st is there power to the oven, 2nd if so there may be an internal fuse protector built in to the oven, check with the manual for anything of that sort listed. if not you may have to take it in and have it repaired by a pro. there is a lot of voltage in these ovens and unless you know what you are doing a person could get hurt
That's usually a bad magnetron.
This one has a 5-year warranty on the magnetron, so you should only have to pay for labor to get it replaced.
I would call Maytag at 800-688-1120.
